  1. Re:QIF vs. QFX on Specifications of Intuit's .QFX Format? · · Score: 1

When I tried to use QIF, transactions would get imported more than once if they appeared in two separate downloads.

My CC download facility had a bug where transactions would not always download - if I pulled transactions 2 days ago, and then, today, pulled transactions that happened since my last download, there was a good chance that a transaction that occurred 2 days ago would not be recorded.

So, I got into the habit of downloading either the last 90 days or all my transactions every time. If I did this with QIF, I would invariably end up with duplicate transactions in my register. QFX did not have this problem.

Don't know what the issue was, once QFX fixed it, I didn't research any further.

    I'll second the RackShack notion.

I rent two (2) 1.3 GHz Athlons with 512M RAM and 40 GB IDE drives for a total of $200/mo. That comes with 400 GB of traffic per machine (averages out about a 100% utilized T1 throughout the month).

The machines have different functions, and rsync allows them to mirror each other. Either machine can take over the duties of the other in case of failure.

  5. Tort reform / Losing Legal Fees on Patent Cases Hurting Small Businesses · · Score: 1

There's been a lot of talk about tort reform and how the little guy can't sue the big guy since, in a loss, they would probably have to pay the big guy's legal fee.

How about this to level the playing field:

The amount of damages to repay legal fees can be no more than the smaller of the plaintiff's legal fees or the defendant's legal fees.

Thus, if two similarly sized companies sue each other, the fees should be about the same. If a small company (or person) sues a big company, the big company can't allocate a team of lawyers to the small company's one lawyer and expect to get it back in a counter-suit.

    Just an idea.

    me = 5.98 * 10^24 kg
d = 6768 km (ave distance from center of earth to ISS)

So, on ISS, the force of gravity is 89% that of here on the ground. Doesn't sound very "micro" to me! =)

Yeah, but a point they make in the article is that channel surfing during commericials is a "zero-sum" proposition:

The channel you were watching loses you as a viewer, but another channel will gain you, and thus you "advertisibility potential" (my phrase).

I don't know if I agree with this theory, but the networks seem to be OK with it.

The "copy protection" is a data track of gibberish after the "real" music. When the CD is inserted in the computer, it will try and read the data track and get only gibberish. Causing the machine to not read any more data on the CD itself.

By blacking out the track itself, you effectively remove the track so the computer cannot even attempt to access it. Most computers will then ignore the track, allowing the audio data to be read.
