Thanks for the shiny star:).. only thing I can see the thing missing is a wireless network card so you don't have to run network cords into your living room..;)
I've seen a lot of post saying.. "big whoop my computer does this too so what!"
Well thats not the freakin' point.. My computer does a lot of this too.. but I don't want the damn thing in my living room sitting in my entertainment center.. its big its bulky and out of place right next to other nice ergonomic entertainment center pieces. This thing is SMALL and also very QUIET (liquid cooling! from what the site says.. I personally still wanna see it desected though). This thing looks like a game cube or XBOX things that are acceptably fit into an entertainment center.
Now the second point is building it yourself. I'll agree it is probably a bit cheaper but.. I personally and a friend have been looking for parts for this very type of thing. I think Shuttle makes a bar bones kit. Plus if you look on Tom's Hardware they have an article specifically for this. Now after looking at that article it seems a bit further over the general populace's heads to make something such as this... for really (after my own pricing and such) not all that much more. By building I think you could save about 200 or so dollars.. but then again its not quite warrantied is it.. and it doesn't have the liquid cooling to make it quiet does it?.. ok well thats all I have.
Everyone has asked the question who would win a fight between you Picard and Kirk.. thats overplayed. What I want to know is have you planned a Wil Wheaton against William Shatner dual of some sort? After your/. interview do you plan on becoming an avid reader of slashdot and choosing an avatar to vie Karma away from CleverNickname?
That reads like bad pr0n

"are not always" a lot.. its more like "Oh yes..." ok maybe the kiddies shouldn't read this post;).
in all aspects of use and NEVER HAVE TO TOUCH A COMMAND LINE INTERFACE FOR A SECOND. or even know one exists!
I just wanted to make a comment about this. I would love if linux people made things braindead.. and also that you didn't have to use the command line. Personally I love command line stuff. That is my preferance. My big beef at windows is that I don't get enough use in the command line. After that when there is command line stuff its obscure and you gotta buy some big thick book... where really microsoft should have all that capability easily accessable and published on the web or when you buy the OS. At least with linux if it has a capability I can go out and find it for free on some linux documentation website either linux.org or some other reputable site. What I'd like to see for linux is somewhat of what this man talks about, but remember You don't have to get rid of the miniscule tweaking ability when you make the interface thats braindead easy. My dream is that it will have both. One day when I'm fealing lazy I can just start it up install.. do whatever and be done in like 10 minutes... The next day when I've got some pep in me I want to analyze everything and tweak it to my personal preference in every single miniscule detail.. but thats my dream..
Now to respond to your message. I haven't looked into sound editing software for linux either though I've used soundforge for windows quite a bit. BUT I know for a fact most music/sound industry people in fact use most of their software on Mac clients. The names of some of the big programs evade me at the moment. Now what I'm wondering.. is since Mac OS X is built off of linux.. I wonder if those programs may easily transfer to a PC Linux platform?
I of course have my own reasons for still using windows.. (mainly most of the time I'm at work.. which is win2000) and games.. but I know.. WINEX... I'm interested but also lazy and busy with many other things.. so I'll get their eventually just up till now I'm not.
I wonder if the submitter of the story, The Fred (no URL or e-mail), works for microsoft. I would think it would be a great sneaky, underhanded tactic for Microsoft to use if they believed the pictures to be leaked to the site that was posted. What I'm getting at here is that they found the pictures were leaked and what site it was on so instead of mailing the site and saying cease and desist they took the far more evil alternative and posted the site to slashdot. Knowing of course it was on a low bandwidth server. Thus taking the site down as well as burning the owners a bit.:)... just your daily conspiracy theory.

Hey with a phone that has that good data transfer it probably can transfer some high quality realtime audio over the airwaves. So no say I want bootleg a concert (lets say one thats not friendly to bootlegging). They'll check for recording devices but won't think twice about a cell phone. BWAH HAHA thats where you got them.. All you do is have your phone start downloading the audio to your computer's hard drive and voila! sneaky bootlegging.. thats quality recording. Though I guess this might be limited by the quality of the mic on your phone but hey I just come up with these crazy ideas. If you're hardcore enough and a hardware hacker I'm sure you could fix a crappy mic problem pretty easy:)
Really DVDA hmm. Maybe someone else will get this reference but when I saw the acronym in a few posts below I almost fell out of my chair. Anyone ever seen Orgazmo!.. If DVDA really is the format that catches on those South Park guys will have field day with that.
"Once you get a certain age in this business the only way you'll get any work in this business is if you do DVDA" -- quoted from a character in Orgazmo.
This product is most likely aimed at the market of people trying to integrate their computer into their entertainment center. Those people with 52 inch HDTV's. I mean really I would love to have something like this just dedicated to surfing the net on a 52" HDTV and then watch DVD's off the same little box. Not to mention You would then be able to play mp3's off of it networked to another computer that has vast more storage for MP3's. Plus then you could easily watch home videos from the new USB 2.0 MiniDV camcorder or whatever. Its for people who want all these toys. I personally have none of them because of lack of need (I would want some of them) and lack of wanting to spend the cash. You're correct with all the people you list not wanting something like this. Of course you're not gonna do digital editing on it or CAD/CAM.. You get a Freakin' workstation made for that not something mini. If you're looking at this stuff you're definately not some developer you're an end user who wants a nice quaint compact piece to fit into the entertainment center. Something thats unobtrousive and sleek. I personally wish I had one of these thing built into my coffee table or breakfast nook at home with a nice flat panel monitor and a One-handed keyboard;).. so I could surf the net while getting breakfast or cooking or something like that. Thats just my 2 cents.. (ok maybe a little more than 2 cents)
Screw just using my cell phone to control it while I'm not home. That thing would be doing my household work all the time, no matter if I'm home or not. MY VISION OF BEING ABLE TO DO NOTHING IS FINALLY REALIZED. (like the jetsons!)
I find it interesting to see the spin that CNN health put on this article (not that I'm suprised CNN would put some sort of spin on their news). Labeling Ventor as an Entrepreneur. The word many times denotes someone starting a business for profit. Though in the article it says this is a non-profit venture. Even the sentence that is said in though has spine see here..
"He said he has lined up several wealthy individuals, whom he declined to identify, who will pay to have their genomes mapped and thus kick off what he said would be a nonprofit project."
Using phrases like "He said" as if the reporter does not believe Ventor's clame of the venture being non-profit.
Maybe I'm just paranoid or I have a severe distrust of the media (both really I'll admit it). I know for a fact when writing news or anything in general, its not good practice to add good words unless you're trying to say something between the lines. In that quote.. "he said" is definately uneaded.. Of course HE SAID it.. the reporter is referenceing a quote.. Oh well thats my two cents.. Maybe the reporter is right.. but personally I'd rather find that sort of thing out from the facts and not be fooled into believeing it because of the SPIN some news outlet puts on a story because of their own hidden opinions. Editorials shouldn't be masked as clean straight forward news reports.. But hey thats just my opinion.
Of course creating a solar panel produces pollution, but if during its useful life it generates more energy than what a power plant could with the amount of pollution it took to create the panel, then it's a win. (from one of the replies)
I totally agree, just trying to bring the point out that a whole lot of other stuff needs to change not just the advent of electric cars. Thats a great step, but infrastructure has to get built up too.
I think I kinda wrote my comment to instigate responses like the two I've gotten. I totally agree with both the replies to my comment.:)
They've tempted you with a non-Internal combustion vehicle. Now that you're interested and go "Oh yes, I finally can just plug into my house and Pay the electric company for my power and not the gas station".. Then they unveil it. OH MY GOD THAT THING IS UGLY... and they tell us thats the only way you'll ever have a fast electric car.. a big heavy ugly ass machine. Thus the sabotage of zero-emission vehicles is complete. On a side note.. if we all just plug our cars into our house to charge it... electric companies then will have to produce more electricity.. then burning more of what ever fuel they use. Thus creating more polution.. or possibly some other environmental effect or danger even if your electric company doesn't produce from fossil fuels right..?
What about that worm who nibbled away many millions of dollars from Elingson Oil's computer mainframe a couple of years back. They've never fixed that exploit.. I mean hell it was used before by those guys that Superman had to fight off. hmm but then again you can pay for more channels.. I don't think i've seen cable company's let the normal subscriber pay for more bandwidth.. or well sometimes they don't even tell you what your real bandwidth is. So in that you can explicitly buy premium channels means if you get them without paying you are stealing service... If there is no stated bandwidth in your agreement then how can they say you're stealing more when there is no number to begin with. Then again there probably is some way they state their accepted bandwidth.. just my two cents.. i'm not condoning stealing here.. I just get alarmed when companies are general in their agreements and then try to be specific when you break one of their supposedly implied rules..
ok I'm not about theft of service. I buy what I use. NOW with that said.. the question is does the cable company have bandwidth limits in their service level agreement. If those bandwidth numbers are not there.. then really is it theft of service? It may still break their agreement but I don't think its theft of service if the cable company doesn't specifically give you bandwidth limits to use.
Well.. I wonder how this could effect california's plan make DoS's of p2p networks legal.. like say the RIAA makes a DoS on kazaa and blows away a bunch of connections in britain.. I see WAR!!!!!!!!!!!
This is just one more time where Moby is saying stupid things. I have to say really liked his album Play.. I thought it was a really good album and spanned a lot of different music types and paces. I saw Moby live.. the man puts on one of the best live shows i've seen, he's got a lot of energy on stage, running around and jumping and stuff. BUT.. and this is a BIG BUT.. the man just says stupid things in every interview i've seen him in. He doesn't think or maby he thinks but he comes to a stupid conclusion.. like ben afleck did in the Kevin Smith movie "Chasing Amy" he's got this plain.. and reads something completely wrong. I'll tell you this the reason why his record hasn't sold as well isn't because of tech savvy fans.. I buy my music, and i'm pretty technically savvy. THE REASON why it hasn't sold is because he remade his last DAMN album... the one song i've heard sounds the same as Play and it just doesn't make we want to buy it. I really wished he could have become more inovative with a new album but he just put out another album of the same stuff. I got no problem with him.. I just figure.. hell if i want the same thing i'll just listen to my album of Play instead of shelling out another 20 bucks on a CD that really just doesn't do it for me.
so why not just make a EULA for your module that says by clicking and accepting to play, download, modify, or view code from this campaign/mod you are agreeing not to commercially distribute or redistribute this Mod with out express contact or contractual agreement seperate from any previous contract or EULA provided with NWN or any other software distribution to do with the game. Thus if they want to put it on a CD they're gonna wanna play the mod first or at least look at it.. so once they do that they've agreed to your EULA.. just like you agreed to theirs. Now they've got to make seperate contact with you. If you're worried about their EULA interfereing with your's since you obviously agreed to theirs before you made the MOD, then just work your EULA referring to the RPG experience and your story and characters. Thus to use the mod they have to use the story if they want. Now they don't interfere cause your EULA doesn't refer to the toolkit
just to add on... a video card with TV video out these days is pretty cheap.. certainly a heck of a lot cheaper than an XBOX. you're gonna have a computer anyway.. otherwise where you getting Divx from
Personally this is my two cents. I really could care less to see napster go. I buy my music, because i like collecting CD's and records. The only reasoned I cared at all about napster is because when it came out. I found it was an awesome way to find new music i hadn't heard... preview it in good quality, listen for a while make sure I wouldn't get bored, then I BOUGHT THE DAMN CD! Alas, I know I am one of the few people who used napster that actually ended up buying more CD's because of it. Thats because radio in this day and age, at least where i lived, which is philadelphia, sucked and still does, and is one sided. BUT that is a whole other rant for a whole other topic.
Anyway so Napster is gone.. I'll just have to go back to free previews on www.cdnow.com to figure out if I like new music that i want to buy.
Well, at first when i saw that people were starting to bring out Black cases I thought it was neat that there was variety. Now though if thats just going to be the new standard.. it kinda sucks..
