First late me state that I realize the limitations of Wikipedia; it is by no means a full proof or all encompassing resource. With that being said, there seems to be a fair amount of evidence in favor of the position that a wage disparity exists between men and women. Here is a link containing said information for the US.
Let me also state, that there is a wiki entry here which states the following: "However, some studies, such as those done by the Independent Women's Forum, conclude that when taking into account variables when comparing male and female employment within the United States - type of job, hours worked in a week, tenure, benefits (for example maternity leave) - women make 98% of men's income. For further information, see Male-female income disparity in the USA." So I can't say for sure...
All I know is feminists arn't nearly the movers-and-shakers that the GGP would have us believe.
Uh that's because men haven't gone out and created these grass roots organizations to make other men aware of the dangers of prostate cancer. If we got on our collective asses about it, I'm sure we could have prostate cancer walks et al. after all it is my understanding that on a long enough time line ALL men get prostate cancer.
If you're going to make a claim like "the feminist movement has research on men's health buried" please post the subsequent proof. I'm not going to take that statement on face value because frankly the feminist movement just isn't that powerful. Case and point, there is still a huge disparity between the salary of men and women doing the same job...if that's the case I doubt that the feminists can convince large government and research institutes to stop researching health issues that pertain to men in favor those that pertain to women.
Population control would be impossible to create and maintain on a global scale; instead all we have to do is allow the natural course of supply and demand to naturally limit the population. The results WILL NOT be ideal and this mindset is somewhat callous but individual homo sapiens are meaningless on the scale of survival. As we are unable to support more people our populations will naturally be checked: diseases will run rampant, there will be massive clean water and food shortages which in turn will cause wars. All four of these things will check our population.
Might we do a great deal of damage to the planet? Yep we sure will. Will the damage we do to the planet last forever? Not a chance in hell; if we manage to kill ourselves off some other species will slowly begin to take over for whatever reason. This is just how our planet works, get over it.
Oh and don't you worry, Global Warming is going to help with population control too! I predict that there will be massive destablization in China/India within the next twenty years: partially due to global warming, partially due to over population and most of it having to do with the preference for male babies over female babies in these countries (I believe India has this same problem, please correct me if I'm wrong). As it stands today, a huge imbalance exists and this imbalance will have the greatest affect on the poorer parts of China. This is going to be a huge issue, if men can't find women there will be an amazing degree of unrest. We are really such simple creatures...it's great:)
My copy sure had helicopters in it; first there were the Helicopters that would come after me when I raised a major ruckus....then towards the end of the game it was possible to steal a military helicopter if you did things properly though I never did it nor did I see anyone do it so it may have just been Internet lore...
Alright, please let's start with the established point that the entire Cold War was fought by proxy and it was done so for a reason...unless Nuclear Winter sounds nice especially up in Canada.
The USSR and The United States both did this to each other, and in many ways trained today's terrorist leaders. It is well known, as you reference in your post, that the US trained Osama Bin Ladden and he was a golden boy of the Reagan administration. Also, it's well known that we sold arms to Iran and Iraq to fight each other in order to fund wars in South America against communist regimes that were being supported by the USSR.
From the perspective of Game Theory, it was far better for the human civilization to have the two superpowers fighting wars by proxy as opposed to openly going at each other. Let me overly simplify things to illustrate my point.
USA And Russa go Nuke Crazy! Russia Uses Nukes but not USA USA Uses Nukes not Russia Wars Fought by Proxy, niether side uses Nukes
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm mm which options sounds best to me? Did it have unintended consequences? Damn straight and we'll have to deal with them for quite some time to come by I'll take it any day over nuclear winter. I mean personally, I think the Cuban Missile Crisis sounds like a heck of a good time, hell I'd want to do that every weekend but I'm kinda strange...
To be exact, 50% of the oil contracts were awarded to French countries by Iraq...Germany is still owed billions of dollars for bunker construction. So the governments just got on the popular people's bandwagons and said that they opposed invading Iraq for some nonsense but really....PAYCHECK BABY PAYCHECK.
Doesn't matter who it is, where it is, what the religions or outside factors are, if there's a war going on someone is getting PAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAID.
Dvorak's comments aside, there is a red herring with regard to this whole iPhone thing; phones with the capabilities of the iPhone have existed in Japan for quite sometime. The only reason they haven't jumped the tank to the states is Nokia and such realized that they can make a pretty penny selling old technology to the American Market especially because it seems like there are fewer bleeding-edge types in the states than say Japan.
Granted, one should never underestimate the power of the mac fanboy....
Are we talking about cultural movements or are we talking about music, because last I checked we're talking about music. The term punk has been subsumed by the masses and just because you don't like how it has "evolved" doesn't mean it's not punk.
Rock evolves, blues evolves, hip-hop evolves so why shouldn't punk?
And save us the "As soon as you sell out you're not playing punk anymore..." bullshit; we're all sellouts and we're all looking to sell out. Welcome to the real world.
Do you have a job? If you answered yes, you're a sell out! Did you participate in general American Culture today? (I apologize for my implied assumption if you're not American) If you answered yes, you too are a sell out! Have you ever eaten fast food? Welcome Sell-Outs-R-Us! Do you go to shopping malls, strip malls and places like Wal-Mart to save money? HELLO MR.SELLOUT!
It's the stupid label often used to cover up ones own inadequacies...art is not predicated on the inability to make money nor what outlet is distributing the material.
The problem with building the HD-DVD player in to the core xbox was it would raise the price of the unit beyond the market threshold. The PS3 ain't selling for shit; the Xbox 360 despite being more expensive sold as many units as the Wii during the Holiday season. You add the HD-DVD player and the price goes up by at least $200 putting it more in line with the PS3.
In the end, it's all irrelevant with new storage specs and the fact that VOD just makes a lot more sense. Studios may fight it a bit at first but once they realize how much money is to be made through Direct2Drive, Apple Movies etc I think they'll eventually go that route. People are just terrified to change existing business paradigms...
Yeah that sounds like where the 405 hits the 101 in Los Angeles; on that stretch of freeway far more than I care to be and inevitably fuckers always use the exit lane to get as close as possible to the 101 entrance. Used to absolutely drive me nuts, get all fuming and start cussing but now I just sit there passively. Just not worth getting all worked up over...
Aye, about four billion years ago, scientists believe that we were struck by an asteroid that was so large that the material ejected from the collision was the foundation for the formation of the moon. Life existed on our planet before that occurred; life exists after!
On our best [worst?] day, we couldn't hope to destroy life on this planet. I would imagine that even detonating the majority of our nuclear payload would only do so much good; save us releasing so much energy that the planet can no longer remain together.
I don't agree with Taiwan being the wild card in this instance; although on the surface it does appear as though China-Taiwan-US are all in for a nice little menage it's unlikely to happen because China is already at war with Taiwan and they are already winning. The war is not a war of bullets but of dollars; why in the world does China need to invade Taiwan when they can just use their economic might to ensure other countries do not trade with Taiwan?
Give it ten to fifteen years and they'll achieve the same end as invading Taiwan except they'll never have to fire a shot...sounds like a much smarter plan to me if I'm China...
Yes, you *could* argue that; I could argue that I shit gold out of my ass too! That doesn't mean I could prove it emperically, but there is nothing preventing me from having this belief.
Talent is bullshit....

I do not believe in talent; I believe in potential. We are all born with innate potential but no one is just "talented" at something. Some people are able to pick up nuisances faster than others; for instance I'm dsylexic. It causes me to be slower at picking up foundational material than other people. There is a flip side to it though, my whole life I've had to work a bit harder and be more adaptive to learning new material in order to not fall too far behind. It instilled in me a work ethic that is second to none; at 25 people look at me and think that I'm "incredibly talented". I worked my fucking ass, learned how to "learn" better than anyone I know and approach new topics without ego.
For ancedotal evidence to support this one need only look at the realm of professional sports. Yes these men and women have a genetic predisposition that gives them the basics ability to compete at the highest level and most people do not have that but what made Michael Jordan the greatest basketball player to walk this planet was not his genetic predisposition nor his "innate talent". He worked harder than any other guy out there...I remember being told a story at basketball camp when I was a wee lad; the point guard for UCLA at the time thought that he'd sneak on to the Warner Brothers set to play some ball in the fancy gym set up for Jordan while filming Space Jam (in the evenings they'd play pick up games with Jordan at this facility). He figured that no one would be using the facility and apparently it was quite good. Finally gets in there and whose shooting jumpers? None other than Michael Jordan.
We like to use talent as our scape-goat. It explains why someone else is better at something than we are; reality is it's just an excuse.
To those interested in this debate, Salon has a very interesting interview that goes contrary to many of the posts in this thread that I have posted. Certainly worth a read...
You're assuming the consequent, your argument is not valid...sorry.
Your statement requires the existence of God to be correct; you can not prove to me emperically that God exists. You have faith that God exists, and I applaud you for that; I lack your faith. Do not confuse faith for emperical evidence. God has never communicated with me, you may say he has and I choose to ignore God and you might be correct but you have no evidence to support your claim only your faith.
The seperation is required because faith has nothing to do with reason just as reason has nothing to do with faith. Faith taps in to our humanity, our core essence. Reason [for sake of argument by reason I mean science] is founded on emperical observations. There is no emperical evidence for the divine, plenty of ancedotal but no emperical. The age of reason begins with the systematic reorganization of theories of the world to meet emperical standards.
Descartes was terrible for philosophy but wonderful for science, his "scientific method" creates a strict standard for what is required in order to call something "true"; it is not possible to apply that methodology to faith because to date no such evidence has been found. People will then say, but that is why we have faith! Exactly, that is why we have faith and that is why faith and reason need be seperate.
Moreover, the secular side of things has no use for faith. It does not deal with those questions nor should it; the vocabulary of science can not withstand the requirements of faith. Maybe one day, as we evolve, we'll find a happy median but that day will not happen any time soon.
Aye, faith and reason need be seperate. Reason is for science, it's how progress occurs...faith is for the development of a human being.
In my mind, they are all mythologies (before I get flamed please go read some Joseph Campbell...you'll see that there is nothing derogatory about my use of the word mythology). We all need to believe in something, and that is a choice and the strength of the choice is rooted in faith...just my two cents though.
That sounds like a "mouse driver" error to me. I work with XP every day in the corporate environment. It ain't perfect but it's pretty damn stable; the only reason I've been rebooting my machines lately has been due to trying to cut back on electrical useage otherwise my XP machines need to be rebooted once every couple months.
Tell your friend to avoid p0rn websites and XP is fine.

Last time I checked, I was alive thus doomsday 0, life 1!
