Not to pick nits, but being former Navy, Seaman is just one of the rates:
Seaman Airman Fireman Constructionman (IIRC)
Each of the Rates denotes the particular field a sailor works in, each with their own colour coding (black for seamn, green for airman, red for fireman, blue for constructionman).
Why is this important? It's not, I just felt like posting a bit of trivia.
What's worse is on my commute to work, I think to myself:
"Ya know... if I slam the car to my right, I could probably get him and the person next to him to launch on the train tracks for a double takedown. Hrmm would that be a signature take down? How much boost do I have left?"
I have to echo this. What really got me started in the IT industry was games. The first non console game I remember was a rabbit game on the Apple ][, I think. After that, I remember thinking how cool it would be to be able to make games for a living. Thus began my life long fascination with computers.
For my three kids, I'm opting for the route of:
Here's a neat game, play it, have fun with it. Then as you grow up, I'll teach you more about computers.
Of course, as far as me making games, that did come true. Sadly, I ended up working for EA. Nuff said.
Pros and Cons said it earlier in this thread, so I'll shamelessly reprint his comment (sans permission) The House of Representatives voted on bill to reinstate the draft by Democrat Charles Rangel (NY), and defeated it soundly, 402-2. The bill, which languished in Congress with no real support since its introduction in January 2003, has often been used as evidence the Republicans favor a draft, despite the fact that a Democrat sponsored it, 14 other Democrats cosponsored it, and no Republicans supported it.

I don't know if MS is the only logical author. I'd bet a beer it was a sysadmin type somewhere who, at the end of his rope, stood up and Yelled "To hell with this worm, I'm going to counter attack!"
Then the white worm was born, and verily it did seek out the blaster worm. And upon the mountain they did fight. Great sparks of bandwidth flew, and updates were brought down.
And in the end, *nix users looked up and said "Oh...there was a worm this weekend?"
Working on a game is a long long process, and more often than not, deadlines are missed and toward the ship date, everyone pulls the all nighters. But they get paid for it. I'm not saying that people won't do this, but I think it would be kind of hard to hold down the day job, which pays the bills, and still work on this project and come close to the deadlines.
Teachers have passwords to access their books, but Seal's was open when the student went into her classroom, Roberts said.
One: The kid shouldn't have tried to change the grades. Bad Kid. Two: The teacher should have locked her machine up. Bad Teacher. Three: A DA prosecuting a kid for this? I would think the DA had bigger cases out there to work on. Bad Judgement
Shame really, I don't think the kid needs to go to jail over this (unless he has a bunch of priors). What the kid probably needs is for is parents to have a one sided conversation with him. One sided meaning their hands talking to his backside.
Just another one that didn't do it for EA

EA, sadly, has a history of trying to make MMOG and failing. UO is the exception, but then again, EA bought Origin after UO was in production.
Just look at the last two MMOG's they tried to make work: Majestic (dead) and Earth and Beyond (Life support). Granted they were good ideas, but EA can't make the shift in thinking from producing box games to MMOG's. Farming out their jobs to a contractor in india effectively allowed them to get rid of a collective 150 years of online gaming knowledge (Kesmai Studios).
I just don't think they'll get it right any time soon.
that not only Lord Protectorate Ashcroft can see my pr0n browsing habits, but the UK government as well. All will be well, I'm just going to go watch Friends now...
Cowboys Super IP script for IRC clients will allow you to join a game with out querying the master server. My tribe uses it a lot. Very handy in matches when you need to regroup between rounds and such. Maybe Cowboys script will be what keeps Tribes going?
Right now is a crap time for the gaming industry. Look at all the big houses, they're cutting people left and right. Having worked for one, it's a harsh time to be in a game studio, moreso than before.

In the pron industry....

Let the modding down begin...

Well, I don't work for them anymore. They thought it would be a good business decision to outsource my campus' job to India.
:)
So now I'm back to sysadmining

the American people might have given Bush the ok to institute a draft
It wasn't Bush who did that. It was a democrat senator IIRC.
Sorry to burst you bubble.
you won't need to, you'll be drafted....
Thank you democrats.
Yes it was a democrat who sponsored that bill.
and tell him to come get me but....

Then again, I could be wrong.

If MS has to give away windows for free, that will just cause windows to proliferate even more.
Umm isn't Linux basically for free?
Got a brand spanking new pair of Dr. Martins! I feel empowered to kick luser ass now! :)
