Perhaps it makes sense for Windows to be 64-bit only, but Linux still runs very well on older hardware.
Example: I support Linux laptops for several people, and not one of them has a 64 bit processor. Laptops that would otherwise end up as e-waste but are still very capable of doing everything the users want once you replace the hard disk with an SSD and max out the RAM.
Is it correct that the AMT is fully dependent on the onboard Ethernet, WiFi and 3G chips for communication?
If so, would simply not using those chips be a suitable workaround? If so, I foresee a strong market for PCIe ethernet cards, particularly ones that don't depend on Intel drivers.
1. This is no longer obscure, after having ample coverage here on/. over the past year 2. This cannot be considered a feature - it's an anti-feature like DRM or remote killswitches.
It's worth pointing out here that if you don't use an Apple ID then you won't be able to use the App Store and, consequently, won't get security updates.
Fonts on Mac OS look like crap even at high DPI, the icons are usually inflated way beyond what they should be and don't get me started on any legacy applications you might want to run on that HDPI display.
You can test it yourself by photographing a piece of paper from a suspect printer, loading it into the GIMP and showing just the blue channel. The "yellow" dots will show up as a darker shade of blue than the surrounding page.
Going from a custom solution with outsourced staff to a cloud based one is just going from one shitstorm to another, but with the added bonus of relinquishing all control over how it is managed.
If they actually cared about their data they would keep redundant datacentres with competent local staff.
And yet they're still doing so much better than America in nearly every metric that matters.
Except perhaps yacht racing.
A cloud service run by an advertising company backing up my computer?
Like hell it will.
I grew up in the 70's and 80's, watched a lot of TV shows and I'm not sure I could name a single network that any one was tied to.
Except perhaps The Wonderful World of Disney.
You could have left out the bit about "with 32-bit processors" there.

No, I didn't realise that choosing to disable AMT in a BIOS disabled every single component of AMT, including SOL, which is what this story is about.
Please, tell me more.

I think the distinguishing feature is that those top tier journals do print retractions when serious problems are found.
You forgot the Z axis - Liberal through to Conservative.
Ah yes, I zoomed through that one.
I'm curious. Which part of the GP's post do you consider to be FUD?

A very courageous design decision there.
So does this mean Eric S. Raymond won't need to fly First Class to his speaking engagements any more?
Or India. Or the Middle East.
So these people who ingest 140-210 ml of ethanol per week are considered moderate drinkers?
I think my hippocampus is safe for now.
Nice try. I have to support it on a regular basis.
Yeah, maybe /. isn't for you.
Reddit is ---> that way.
This is a joke, right?

I'll keep using XFCE thanks.
Here is the EFF's guide on yellow dots.
And it's not in any way limited to Xerox.

In response to this, Apple just doubled its reward for hacking Android to USD $800,000.
And Microsoft increased its reward to a Zune and a box of beer.
Take her down, hard.
Maybe this will be a lesson to the other feminist or otherwise SJW morons who claim persecution where none exists.
Unless, of course, there really *was* serious sexual harassment.
Was this judge paid off or just pathologically incompetent?
And actually ratify them so they apply.

Clearly they don't, so lots of luck to them.
