Dual-mode WiFi and GSM/GPRS. Up to 24 MB of memory for user file storage, such as music and videos. 2-inch, 176 x 220-pixel color display. Opera browser. Email client. 3.4 ounces (95 grams). Tri-band (900/1800/1900) GSM radio
WHA?!
Not to sound fanboi or anything, but the nokia N80 has much better specs at a slightly lower price point, and is available now. Wifi, 3g, 3MP cam, 40MB memory (upgradeable via miniSD), and it comes in 2 colors. And that's not even their newest model (alhough the N80 is arguably the most feature packed). Sony Ericsson phones OTOH try to cater to a more specific crowd -- ie. walkman phones, cybershot phones -- so I have don't have a phone in mind that has that all around capability from SE now. Yes, those other phones run symbian, and not linux, but if Dlink plans to make money out of this, then they either have to lower prices or push out much better specs, preferably earlier than Q1 2007.
Does anyone that comes here on purpose us IE still or waste time with yahoo messanger?
Unfortunately, yes. I have to have both IE and Firefox for testing webpages, and YM as my main IM. And unfortunately, one of my friends is bombing me with this said worm.
Out of curiousity, I booted into ubuntu, logged into YM and tried it out, knowing I'm safe.:) It was just a simple VBScript but I couldn't get the file in question.
Also, Steve Ballmer purchases the original chair he threw. He will have it restored and displayed in the Microsoft headquarters in Redmond. The famous chair will bear a plaque with the words "I'll f*ck!ng kill Google."
This one takes the cake for me at the price point of ~$340. That's just about to the point where it is way freaking too much to spend on a gaming rig. I'm gonna get one.:)
Dude... just curious, but why are you gonna get one, now? I would understand if you had money to burn, or if you're a serious gamer, or if games are running like molasses, but wouldn't it be a bit too late especially since DX10 and vista is coming around the corner?
I have this dilemma myself. I'm running on a 6600GT now, and while it serves me fine (sims2, CS, HL2), I still plan to wait till Vista for a major upgrade.
*note: if MS pushes back vista and dx10 games are really slow in the coming, please disregard my comment.
But seriously, the FCC's _purpose_ is to regulate the airwaves to reduce the abuse of the communications channels. It's not that they own it, _anyone_ can broadcast on the available frequencies. It's just that it's gonna create a major chaos if people just started broadcasting with no regards to what is more useful. And that chaos is something that the FCC is trying to avoid.
OTOH, that's what the pirates plan to do. This looks very interesting indeed.
launching a giant multi-million dollar rocket filled with liquid oxygen with 2/3 of that fuel carrying just the weight of the fuel is so terribly efficient
because launching the rocket is EFFECTIVE, compared to a balloon that will only reach about midway/three-fourths of the way in the atmosphere, only to fall back to the earth. the rocket has enough to push at a force that will allow it to get into orbit. not efficient, but it's the only way we get the job done.
I love lynx and all, but there are people who need too see pr0n, right? The more pop-ups that lead to more pr0n sites, the better! Think of the children!
Dude, give the kid a break. He didn't learn anything about Shakespear, atoms, Africa, grammar, and how to turn on a computer (his words, not mine). By the time we get to be managers (if you aren't already), he's still in college, trying to figure out why he can't get laid, and we can make it a point not to hire one-trick ponies with big ego problems. He was 17 when he entered college for crying out loud!
Does not matter how fast the CPU is if it is bandwidth limited
The bandwidth helps, but it's not limited to it. Even with all the advancements we've had in bandwidth, non-volatile storage is still the chokepoint. Most apps fit into main memory, and sometimes, cache. Most apps see a big jolt in performance with more cores (particularly properly coded multi-threading apps).
But the real culprit lies in the inherently non-parallel nature of the x86 architecture. All the advancements of processor architectures (out of order processing, hyper-threading, multiple cache) was designed to work around the limitations of x86. Itanic^W Itanium was supposed to help, but (un)fortunately, it was too late since a lot of the users were already entrenched in with their x86s. And unfortunately for us, only intel and probably AMD have the resources to make a dramatic shift in the architecture of the masses.
Fact: If Hollywood has TPCM it is possible they might actually design something that can't be cracked. Or at least not cracked effortlessly, as DVDs are now. Microsoft's failure with Vista is our opportunity, we should seize it.
As far as Office and iTunes go, aren't the Mac-native versions of both programs better, anyway? Why would anyone want to run the Windows versions of either?
the iTunes part, i really can't comprehend myself. I might, however, find that if i have only one copy of office (for windows) that i use on a dual-boot mac, crossover might be convenient for that. although i don't know about the licensing issues about this. it would definitely be easier if i can borrow a mac-office installer from someone, and use the license of the windows version (since it's installed in one computer only).
http://msdn.microsoft.com/directx/xna/this baby's just for windows. i would assume though, that eventually, they can port to the xbox360 with little fuss.
of course, being MS, they can create a whole lot of fuss about something so simple.
i was shocked reading TFA:
The shortcoming is evident if you run the sample included, a modern version of Spacewar. The game defaults on the joypad and you have to #define (yes, #define) a flag (USE_KEYBOARD) to allow the use of a Keyboard instead of a Joypad, crippling the "portability" of the game code. There's no way to transparently handle keyboard, mouse and joypad actions together unless you code it by hand. Frankly, in an era where even the lowliest mobile SDK has the functionality to completely abstract from the input device when writing game code, it is a bit discouraging don't see it in XNA.
a little bit too much of a mixed bag really. on one hand, it's great that a simple programmer (like me) can actually get to develop my own games for windows with as little fuss as possible *at least that's what i hope*. while on the other hand, if the TFA was to be believed, i guess i still have to wait. but kudos to MS for at least trying.
I think they just counted female avatars.

If you're gaming on your PC, you're a nerd.
That's not gonna insult anyone here.
Fact is, there's really a lot of games that only a keyboard and mouse can satisfy. FPS's and RTS games are those that come to mind.
TAKE THE BLUE PILL!!!
Maybe we can do the Soviet joke here...
"In Soviet Russia the airwaves broadcast you!"
But it doesn't sound too nice either.

Imagine if MS designed a talkie toaster...
Imagine if they used clippy on that...
So now, they've changed their stance, and they're including the HDMI output. According to http://babelfish.altavista.com/babelfish/trurl_pag econtent?lp=ja_en&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.jp.playstat ion.com%2Finfo%2Frelease%2Fnr_20060922_ps3_hdmi.ht ml this link. The translation's bad, but it will suffice, I hope.
Hmm... Sounds like it's getting to be a better bargain. Not necessarily a good one, but a better one compared to the original price.

I agree. There's only so much pr0n for everyone.

so does this mean that the parent is gonna be modded flamebait?

don't worry too much. just keep the glasses on.
There were no reports about chairs being thrown. Glad to know that.
C'mon, you just need to get into the Slashdot spirit of these things....

i wish i had mod points... that would have been at least a +3 funny
...in other news today, doctors tried to demote any penis that is not at least 7 inches long to 'dwarf penis' status.
whaaa??? oh man...
