  1. Re:Record Function? on Machinima - Spielbergs with a Joystick · · Score: 2, Interesting

T.V. output is typically recorded with a video capture card.. much different in the case of computer game movie making, which can very easily be done with an app called fraps, which can capture anything displayed on screen.

Most games, though, like half-life, have the ability built in (called demo recording, mostly used to catch hackers), and everything can be done software-wise. That's the great advantage, anyone who has a modern computer and a few cooperating friends has the ability to get into this hobby. Doesn't get much more accessable.

these kind of gimmicks always work, ALWAYS. i can say this with a high degree of certainty as someone who has spent more than 3 years playing first person shooters and delving into the modding scene of UT, UT2003, Q3 and espically HL.

when something like this happens everyone with a P2 or greater and broadband internet hops on, and over-night thousands of new fans are born. just think about how many of these people will invest their money into the next release from these guys. it doesn't take a PhD in econmics to realize how much greater prospected sales will be for the upcoming tribes vengeance.

more power to them for realizing the future potential earning power of these games (which is nil, hint fucking hint lucasarts) and giving it out free, and i wish them luck with their next release.

So? They'll just leave it as a small tick mark, check on by default at the bottom of an agreement screen. As if that isn't already in practice...

This can be viewed as an analogy for high CD/DVD/PC Game protection schemes. All they do is hinder and annoy those who legally pay for the goods, the shady crackers and warez d00dz see hardely any effect (other than an ego boost for getting around the latest and greatest protection systems).

With this in practice, the most hindered will be those trying to be quasi-legit, with comparitave honesty (such as Gator, which has an uninstall option that removes itself, compared to Aureate for example, which will give you an option to delete itself, and even if you choose yes it remains in your system).

Without these ligitemate sources, advertising consultants and whoever the fuck else uses this spyware captured information will have to look to other sources, inevitably leading them to the shady malware shit to whom this bill will do nothing(a lot of them are even out of the country anyway).
