Who's going to watch some crappy version of LOTR filmed by someone in the backrow of the theatre with a HandyCam? I'd rather wait the week and see it in the theatres, then buy the DVD when it comes out.
Now if it was a perfect digitial copy of the film, that might definitely cut into DVD sales! Oh, if only China had strong DeCSS laws this would never happen.
I can say without reservation that its impossible for life to have begun under water. Attempting the relatively simple task of bringing to life a packet of seamonkies shows the impossibility of this. All one can wind up with is some brown briney water...
Yes, could be abused. I don't know about you, but in all seriousness I'd rather risk the chance that someone sees some irrelvant data of mine than to see another plane crash into one of our skyscrapers.
Honestly, how many people on Slashdot really have something to hide? I know that its disconcerting to know that you may experience an invasion of privacy but most of us are too inconsequential for the government to bother with.
Anyways, while I have my reservations about TIA, I'm sure adequate safeguards could be imposed to prevent most of these abuses.
And Egg Troll will pledge it only if they promise to never make another episode of that shitty TV show again. The acting on that made Space: Above and Beyond look like Masterpiece Theatre.
Most Sims players are already fat from eating McDonalds and playing The Sims all day. They don't want the shame of having their Sim alter egos puffing up on SimBigMacs and SuperSizedSimFries.
I'm not a big fan of this action, but I can understand BMI's point. Imagine for a second how it would be if you wrote a song and discovered a few months later that BMG had released a CD in which someone had recorded that song without your consent.
You'd be pretty angry about it.
This is exactly how BMI feels. I know I'm not taking the popular stance by not denouncing "facists tactics" or whatnot. But the truth is that BMI needs to protect its property. I think we should give them credit for at least being upfront about it.
I find it humorous to see Slashdot constantly bashing Microsoft. Some of it is deserved but just as much is juvenile ranting. However, I'm deeply entertained to see a Microsoft ad regularly popping up on Slashdot and other OSDN sites. It used to be a rare thing to see that but now I see it on every third or fourth page.
Has Slashdot reached a point where the only way they can afford to continually rant against Microsoft is by accepting money from them?
One of the flaws that I've found while dealing with Linux - and to a lesser extend, the BSDs - is that they lack a comprehensive API. Having a solid API framework is one of the reasons that Windows and the Macintosh OS have been so successful.
One of the hurdles that Linux has been unable to overcome is the fact that the various parts of the OS are kludges together. There is no synergy. X for example isn't well integrated into the rest of the OS. Consequently one winds up with inconsitent behavior: Sometimes right clicking cuts-and-pastes; othertimes it doesn't. There are other examples of this. A quick search of Google can help you find them.
I would like to see Linux succeed. Hopefully the main development team will work on getting a solid API in place so that when I develop for Linux I can spend my time writing my program, not writing code that should already exist.
I wish that the days of creative trolling would come back
Oh but they've never left. Not to self-glorify but if you look at most of my posts, you'll see quite a few modded up. There are others, but you have to hunt thru a lot of noise to get them. After a while some names begin to stick out, like those of my future spouse.
What makes trolling so enjoyable is trying to get past Taco's silly little anti-troll features. If he removed them I'm pretty sure there would be much less lame trolling going on.
Its just a power grab by a highly insecure individual.
Ask Slashdot: How can I try to bullshit our purchasing department into buying a DVD burner so I can encode my DIVX copies of Sailor Moon and hentai onto DVD?
*fap*fap*fap*
In Soviet Russia, web radio listens to YOU!!

Come on. What lame mods are so retarded they don't see the humor in this?

Have you thought of writing a spell-checker, while you're at it?
Seriously, if Time and People want to seal themselves off behind AOL's wall of crap, I say more power to them!
Reading this makes me realize that my Lightbulbs for the Blind scheme was not crazy! Bundles of cash, here I come!

Nothing quite like seeing a HUGE ad for Microsoft's Visual Studio right underneath this story.

AIM + ICQ: It'll combine the brain dead users of AIM with the hideous feature bloat of ICQ. It can't fail!
There is no contradiction about you!
I remember when some crazy fools tried to pull this up in Oregon a while back. It went bad faster than salmon pate left out overnight.
There's this little gem from Real Media.
Those are just fumes coming off a BSD kernel developer!

$200 ?!
I paid $6,000 (US) for my RealDoll and it can't move at all, let alone vacuum the floor.
But have you tried fucking the vacuum?
Because the research was based on a Slashdot poll! I mean have you seen Cowboy Neal?
