    They exist, but i dunno how common they are these days. Old timey radios had air-gap caps that had interleaved plates adjusted by turning the knobs

    If nothing else there's price. For what a box of Montecristo #2s cost, I can get a box each of my two favorite smokes (Partagas black label and La Gloria Cubana serie R if you're interested) and still have money left over for booze to go with it.

    Now to be fair, the Monte I had years ago was an amazing, perfectly constructed example of a cigar, but they're far over priced, even in mail order catalogs.

    Not everyone has any of those stores close by. In a small town you probably have a local wal mart super center, but you're lucky if you have a gamestop or best buy within 30 minutes.

    Gas is not cheap, definitely not cheap enough to make up a 3 dollar difference on games.

    Last I checked best buy only beat out walmart on game prices when they were on "opening week" type sales anyway

    Problem comes when A wal mart moves out due to a super-wal mart being constructed (and they're always built, there are never buildings of big enough size in existance already in a small down)

    The result is a HUGE empty spot in the strip mall or an empty spot of land that is un-rentable due to its size. I've also heard rumors of the big W holding onto leases on old plots like that to keep competitors from plopping down in a ready made retail space

    Remind me the last time suspension made a rat's turd bit of difference to the schoolyard miscreants?

    The ones I knew all took it as "hey free vacation" and went and screwed off for a day or two, and came back.

    Not one bit of behavior change results from suspension unless either the kid cares about his classwork (not likely) or his parents care enough to make the advent of a suspension cause for other more severe punishment at home

    I dunno, once upon a time I thought I got picked on cause I got good grades. Looking back, I realize that while I was sailing through coursework at that level, I was also an annoying little fucker tha didn't know how to keep his mouth shut. That may have had something to do with it, maybe in more cases than the ex-victims like to admit

    The school you went to must have been vastly different from all the ones I *ever* had experience with if you seriously, honestly thing that:

    1) the school administration would lift a finger, and

    2) that any punishment they would hand out would mean a thing to the offending kids. A couple days suspension makes exactly zero difference to a kid who's already dysfunctional enough to be a jackass to his classmates for amusement

    I didn't even have to do the rail crossing (There isn't one any where near the DMV in Rutherford county)

    Other than that, you're dead on--I made a left hand turn, a right, 3 point turn, accelleration and braking control, observe a stop sign, back to the DMV.

    So far though I've never been in a situation where I needed to be able to parallel park.

    Oh no, it gets taught in driver's ed. Typically you do everything exactly by the book (in my experience anywho) or you don't get passed.

    However the test to actually get your driver's license involves demonstrating none of that knowledge. I had to go out a little ways from the DMV, 3 point turn, accellerate quickly, brake quickly (both as in without chirping the tires) and drive back, taking care to observe signage and speed limit. Done. Parallel parking? Didn't have to. Highway driving? Nothing.

    Then again, my state has the worst and most worthless driver's ed / testing program in the nation, according to a write up a few years ago by the state newspaper.

    Also, of course, once you have your license there's nothing but good manners and a fear of traffic violations to make you keep good / safe driving habits

    Perhaps. The credit union I use only lets you pull 200 per day out of an ATM, so that limits you right there. As far as floats, I'm not sure, I've never trusted one enough to cash my payroll check without handing it to a person

    well at some point the checks get collected and the forgery will be spotted. Then you're hosed, as the Feds come after you for fraud and the bank will hit you with some nasty fines.

    Most ATMs also either don't allow you to instantly withdraw what you just "deposited" or else limit it to a smallish sum.

    although not for anything like wages - well, not from a reputable workplace anyway!!

    That's interesting; in the States the majority of small businesses still pay their wages via business checks. Some of the tech savvy ones do direct deposit, but the impression I get (from various employers) is that it's more trouble than its worth to get the payroll information to the bank, rather than work it out in a few minutes on an Excel spreadsheet and write/print checks.

    I see what you're saying, but how is it believable at all that an entire fantasy world full of danger, monsters, beasts and outlaws are all at approximately the same level of power as you, and that any dark hole you stick your head in, there is no chance of finding something that will arbitrarily kick your ass? It just doesn't seem realistic to me at all.

    One of the things I liked about morrowind was the suspense of going into a dungeon and wondering if I'd get by just on the skin of my teeth or if it was something I could handle confidently. I enjoyed it, and it's not there in Morrowind

    Considering all alienware rigs are made for gaming, it's no surprise. If you're looking at an alienware laptop, portability really only counts as far as getting it to and from your LAN venue.

    I'd be willing to bet that a fair bit of it has to do with the current real estate bubble. Also i wonder how they allowed for subsidized housing, habitat for humanity and so on (any case where the owners don't pay full price for the house) I seriously doubt those cookie cutter houses are worth that much, but maybe in an *insane* real estate market?

    Depends on whether you mean bilingual as in two prominent languages or bilingual as in most of the population speaks them both.

    I don't forsee the second one happening anytime soon.

    Not entirely true--it takes time to build up the coordination between your vision and your hands; that is, being able to see where you need to go on screen and getting your character there while keeping your field of view where you want it (ie turning instead of strafing, moving the mouse on the right axis, etc)
