You think that's impressive? Read my kuro5hin diaries where I talk about how to actually index the photos (start with Part I first). I'm actually turning it into a website, and have started beta testing, so if you want a free account....
Really? You think this is true, when I can continue to just throw more host bus adapters into the machine, and more drives on the array? FC is meant to allow for up to 64k drives, you know. All striped if that's how I want it. And with many, many gigabit adapters attached to that same fabric.
On Filemaker. Filemaker itself may be a bad idea, but a user-ish database frontend is needed. Something for the filemaker/access users out there. I say write it as a frontend for any decent backend, at which point there's a choice of postgresql, mysql, db2 and oracle. Still, it really does have to be as simple as Access/Filemaker (hopefully without all the dumb kludges of both).
On Outlook. Thunderbird/Dunbird promises to be what we need here, but it's not there yet. Firefox is easily ahead of IE though, so it's not too tough to believe that TB/SB might still beat Outlook at it's own game. Hard to say though.
Rats infected with the toxoplasmosis parasite do stupid things like become fearless of cats.
Software/hardware industries infected with the microsoftsis parasite do stupid things like hang on to worthless secrets even when it might stimulate more sales.
If the question isn't energy generation (ethanol is fermented grain, which derives energy from sunlight), then it is just about energy storage... what form can it be in that's close to being as convenient as oil/gas/petrol.
Hydrogen has its flaws here. I'm thinking we need to move away from such a dependence on portable stored energy. More light rail, less cars. Even so, can't eliminate it completely, so we probably need something revolutionary in solid state energy storage. Just no clue what it could be.
We'll just turn all of south america and africa into big ethanol farms, the people living there be damned. Who cares if it takes an absurd amount of our infrastructure for the renewables, as long as it's "environmentally friendly"?
So, when I take my case to court, that they're illegally intercepting my communications just to look for dirt to ruin my political campaign, it's impossible to reverse engineer and prove that they were only looking for terrorists?
I mean, the captured documents could already have been altered, no way to prove that they didn't, now.
Not to mention the way it works amounts to what is essentially an eternal wiretap of everyone, guilt, innocence and suspicion matter not.
Yes, that's why many big NOCS end up mirroing raid5s and other fancy things. The level of performance you get is directly related to how much you're willing to spend per gig of storage.
Are you willing to spend for 10 terabytes, just to get 1 terabyte of usable space? Well, then don't expect to have incredible throughput while experiencing the most catastrophic failure imaginable...
And yet when they do share it "for free" with peering agreements, we get an unbelievably large global network called the internet.
They want us to revert to a 1960s AT&T world though, where they get to charge you an ungodly lease for any modem hooked up to their line.
Charging anyone, whether it ends up being me, or Google, for service I'm already paying for is illegal. They've used all their political influence to make competition unfeasible, and now that there isn't much at all, they're going to use that to extort people. That's fucking wrong.
And I didn't even mention how while in theory we can always boycott whichever tier 2 ISP we like, it's much harder to effectively boycott the tier 1 providers. All the little DSL companies we like so much (covad, speakeasy, etc) still have to get their backbone connection from somewhere...
So every time they add a new feature to the mainpage, I'm supposed to dig around in preferences to try and figure it out? I read this like it was a newspaper, I don't play it like I would a video game...
They may not get rich, but tobacco is about the only crop worth anything at all, most of the time. My grandfather used to raise 3 or 4 acres back in the early 80s, and I remember him saying it was worth 20 or 30 times as much as corn or soy. Even with all the extra work (tobacco gets stripped by hand).
Even more likely that any ultra-conservative attacked by his group would need to be about 50 light-years to the right of Limbaugh to be criticized, and even then they'd only lightly argue a few of the details of that person's opinion.
You should also drive a $500 Pinto with plastic sheeting duct-taped over the broken windows, 4 mismatched rims and a hatchback that only stays closed with a bungee cord.
It's less likely to be stolen.
After all, who cares if you're freezing in the winter because the heater doesn't work, and boiling in the summer because you can't roll down your window? You get used to it.
I also recommend not showering but once every 9 months, and wearing the same clothes unwashed for that amount of time. It's good security to look and smell like the homeless, no one ever mugs them.
This philosophy extends to just about every area of life where you need security... use it! It's very clever.
Wouldn't it be possible for a large metereor/meterorite (dammit, which is the correct term for one that actually hits?) to actually cause volcanic events? If a big one hits, and punchs a nice old hole in the crust, lots of mantle would come bubbling up, right? All kinds of tectonic aftershocks too. Or is that farfetched?
Really? That'd be sort of difficult, being that PCI busses max out at 6 slots or so. I have 18, so stfu.
You only have one PCI bus? I think my machine has 4 (for 18 PCI slots). All are 32bit though, so it's not so impressive. I need a new backplane.

_OpenOffice 2.0 has such a beastie, I suspect._
Yes, but we're talking about a *good* one.

Not true. Emotional memory still usually works. He'd still be upset, but wouldn't be able to remember why.

The privileged always romanticize living in a ghetto slum and being poor.

Easily fixed. We can just adjust public education to make people stupid enough for this to work.

Yeh, we have so many blue collar jobs left for them.
On the flip side, we'll probably outsource all our science research to India too.
If you mean the gray bar, I have no idea.
I even checked the slashcode page, but it mentions no upgrades or new features or whatever. It's kinda friggin weird though.

Bingo!
I like quadrupe, but I think this issue has already came up once. We've had one once about a year ago that hit 4 times.
Ban you for resubmitting articles that have already appeared?
Christ. They're more likely to let you be the next beatles beatles or Roland Piquemaineause.
