No I don't have my FOTR DivX;) I have the DVD set to watch on my 36" WEGA with 5.1 sound. Divx;) pshaw:) Actually I threw my DivX;) version away when I bought the extended edition. watching it on my 19" monitor suddenly didn't seem as neat.
Yeah we like violence. It gets the job done. We didn't used to be that way till europeans started forcing thier will on us in the 1700's. We totally ignored the world until the Europeans begged us to come over and get them out of a jam in WWI. Then we went over poorly equipped and learned about violence from people that had stained thier soil with blood for millenia. Then we went back into our shell and tried to recover from a depression. Then some other violent asshole decided to bomb our ships in Hawaii. So we geared up and haven't stopped fighting since. Yeah we are violent but I suppose its only to keep another little pissant country from surprising us again.
You've done nothing but flame this whole thread then get shocked when you get called on it. This whole Ask/. is a gigantic flame by the janitors. Guns are not the problem. People will find a way to kill if they are serious enough. The problem is people are assholes. And so are you.
Well it's not surprising it was a better interview, it was handled by real journalists. Most of the questions that were forwarded for this interview were inane. There were some real gems in the original call for questions, too bad they didn't get modded up. I would have liked one of the questions concerning his Esperanto filem get submitted but oh well.
I actually thought his answer to the MPAA question was great. Society in general could care less about they MPAA, RIAA, or any other cause thats bandied around here on a daily basis. Whether it was pulling the AARP acronym out of a hat or a thoughtful response, most people when they hit a certain age just want to make sure they can make it through life on a daily basis.
There is some problems with your solution on the licenses. At least here in Illinois we are over populated with deer. so reducing the lisences would not help. We have longer seasons if you bow hunt or use black powder rifles. I wish they would open up more of that time for regular hunting. Need based would also cut down on the amount of licenses sold. It would be nice if they changed the licensing so that trophy hunters have a 1/2 limit with a limit of 2 trophies. for every 1 trophy they get they have to get 2 sick/weak ones for conservation purposes. I think a few years of that would bring the animal population to managable size.
It was the next day, brothers, and I had truly done my best, morning and afternoon, to play it their way and sit like a horrorshow co-operative malchick in the chair of torture, while they flashed nasty bits of ultra-violence on the screen.; though not on the soundtrack, my brothers. The only sound being music. Then I noticed in all my pain and sickness what music it was that like cracked and boomed. It was Ludwig van ó 9th symphony, 4th movement.
I'm surprised nobody caught on to this yet.... fer shame
That weeks Onion was fucking brilliant. The Onion crew really put themselves out there and won. This one line in the article you linked summed the 9/11 events up well: "In the movies, when the president says, 'It's war,' that usually means the good part is just about to begin," said hardware-store owner Thom Garner of Cedar Rapids, IA. "Why doesn't it feel that way now? It doesn't feel like the good part is about to begin at all. It feels there's never going to be another good part again."
The first book does drag. It actually took me years to get in the right mindset to force my way through it. I don't think I read the entire first volume the first couple of times I read the series. Now I have no problem with it.
heh thats interesting but I just don't have the time to deal with all that stuff. My wife uses the cards and does 99% of the shopping. I would just rather not be bothered.
When I pay by CC or Debit at any place I'm glad they ask me for verification info or hold the card and compare sigs, not that mine is legible anyway. Usually when I go to Lowes (home center) they ask me random bits of info when I pay debit. But when I pay cash they don't ask me anything. I figure everyones been tracking my movements since birth anyway. One thing I will not do is join the "premium" clubs at the supermarket or Blockbusters or anywhere else. And this in not just because it's a front for collecting marketing information. I figure if you are going to give me something, just give me the fuckin thing. Don't make me jump through hoops to get it.
No I didn't miss that part, it's just irrelevant. My point was that outlawing something thats popular can have undesired results. Lowering the prices of CD's to where copying and sharing would stop some of it but not all. There would still be the natural inclination to share and swap.
Trying to stop any popular activity brings more problems than intended. I'll use as an example Prohibition of Alcohol in the USA. It was a big boost to Organized Crime. Who knows what kind of problems the MPAA is making for itself by going after something that has been done since recording devices were made available to consumers.
Hell they can't even pass a spelling test and you want them to edit? You want them do do something that would require powers of reason and the application therof? CmdrTaco may have Powers, Secret Powers, but I fail to see where he and the rest of the/. editorial staff have the skill do anything as remarkable as editing.
Food on the table is what it's all about my man. Save the idealism and zealotry for those without jobs, single, or retired. I loved computers when I was a kid. I love computers now. But now it's just a means to an end. I do what the boss wants with them when i'm on his dime and don't even think about the rights, wrongs and so forth. It's just a job that is better than cleaning toilets. When I'm working with them on my own I do what I want to do with whatever OS or language is my preference at the time. I guess it's been the same since my dad and I were doing the Heathkit projects. It's always been about personal enjoyment of electronics and not saving the world.
And I agree with you on Netware. They really needed a better marketing strategy 5 years ago... I think it's a little late for them to get back in the game.
I have yet to taste piss...
hrmm i didn't think about the heroin, but Galadriel and Arwen going ass2ass is starting to pop into my mind.

Hrmm to pull another quote from the book...
GET LOST!
How about just rigging the meters to shut off the radio when they are activated for a fare.
There was another one that came out at that time called Treasure of the Four Crowns.

mmm wondervision I wonder if the movie is as crappy as i remember it.
somebody needs to ressurect it and put it on tape or dvd.
Bringing rabbits to Australia was infinately less harmful to the enviroment than bringing prisoners to Australia was to the Aborigines.
I don't eat living things.
