While they are just plain stupid, they tend to attract others that are just plain stupid. Especially those with some percieved grudge against someone of another race. Nazism gained a lot of ground because the party catered to what Germans in a depression wanted to hear.
The same goes with any of these organizations. They tickle the ears of the frustrated and people who arn't intelligent enough to pick themselves up by thier bootstraps and continue no matter what is put in the way.
It's hard to fight against that sort of thing. Outlawing or banning Hate-speech or organizations that promote it won't make it go away, it will only engender more of the same. And its a natural disposition of all organisms on this planet to fear/attack/dislike those that are not like them.
The only solution comes ironically from what Hate mongers want to do. Breed them out. Raise children in a way that they are not attracted to such things. The problem may slack off but a person is a fool to think it can be legislated away.

I think it is a victory.
The people that provide cash registers and POS systems are always looking to lower the bottom line to increase profits. Licensing OS's to run thier software on adds that much more. They also need to have a stable platform to base thier systems on to keep the customers happy. If Linux succeeds there, then it will get noticed by others in the industry and word will spread by mouth and trade magazines.
Maybe partially related... Compaq's new Smartstart 6.0 CD is Linux based. this allows them to get out of the licensing from MS for thier server configuration software. Before they had to pay MS for each CD they pressed because they were using a Windows platform.

Joe Sixpack may not notice all this, but the people that spend the big money are starting to.

The thing that really bugs me about that subject of all the poor black people losing thier right to vote is that they knew it was illegal and they did it anyway. You can wrap the subject up anyway you want and put whatever spin on it. But it boils down to "You do the crime, You do the time."
What needs to take place, other than getting rid of the crappy laws covering narcotics, is for the black communities to get the message through to thier people that they are giving up thier rights if they get caught. Better to abstain till you have enough numbers to change the law.
Thats how I feel about it anyway.
