With development costs likely to be astronomical, however, Japanese space officials are hoping to develop the vehicle in conjunction with their counterparts in Europe and elsewhere.
Japan previously worked on developing a space shuttle dubbed the Hope, but the project was frozen due to a lack of funds and other difficulties.
Japan has been trying 'government by construction' for years trying to revitalize their economy and have achieved the industrialized world's biggest national debt. So where are they getting the money for a space program?
Seriously, Japan just built an 11 mile long tunnel under Tokyo Bay in '97 that cost almost 11 billion dollars (1.44 trillion yen), yet no one uses it. Why? The toll is about $50. Does Japan really need a space program?
I'm not from Japan and I don't pretend to be infallible - these are my thoughts on the subject. If you live in Japan, what do you think? Also, there was a good article on Tokyo in last month's National Geographic, check it out in print if you can.
bombardier makes great jet skis! sea doo is, i believe, a division of bombardier. so once those ice caps melt, we can just jetski around (like the hot girl at the sea doo site!) car-centric world, pshaw:)
wayback has a really old slashdot archived here. hey, guess what, on Dec 20 '97 (my birthday!) we were saying netscape sucks and IE is a little better. wow, not much changes in 5 years after all;)
Absolutely not! While there is no question that Odyssee can add dramatic effects to action scenes containing explosions, car chases and aerial dogfights, you'll find the more subtle effects it can create will add even more to your overall viewing experience. Odyssee adds fun, drama and excitement to everything you watch.
Odyssee will also likely make me spill my beer all over my girlfriend and her $1,000 leather. Yup, that'll add drama and excitement to the night...:)
"Too many people don't realise that when you download a song you like from a peer-to-peer network or some other unauthorised internet service, you're stealing music," she said.
I won't bother preaching to the converted or commenting on how she incorrectly links downloading music from a P2P to illegal activity. It may be a legal MP3, therefore my act of downloading it from a P2P is legal.
That not being said, it's also funny that she thinks people don't realize they are stealing copyrighted music! Of course they do, they just don't care because they hate the music companies who always try to rip them off and collude against them.
so when i say "extra CO2" i guess i really mean "more CO2" (unlike potential car fuel cells which run off H + O2). oh well, a little C02 probably would beat nasty batteries:)
...methanol is introduced to a catalyst to produce electrons, protons and carbon dioxide.
Granted this fuel cell doesn't produce much of a byproduct (the article says it will produce about a drop of water a day) but do we really need more products that produce extra CO2 for the environment? It might not seem like much, but that is not much per fuel cell. I have three cell phones, a few laptops, and countless other items around the house that use batteries (and would hopefully some day use these fuel cells).
Of course you don't end up with all kinds of nasty chemicals in the landfills, but you are polluting in a different way. And this way is one in which we are already far over-polluting...
i'm sure the innocuous little moon-rover on the nasa page will soon be outfitted with things like EMP weapons, chemical weapons, flamethrowers, magnetic grapples, swarms of multi-bots, etc. rumor has it Carmen Electra is even in the class (the page does say anyone can audit!)
i'm not usually one to criticize slashdot, but the number of duplicate articles has gotten ridiculous lately. this is at least the third in september (that i can recall)

Electrons usually travel at about two-thirds of light speed in wires, slowed down as they bump into atoms. Hache says it may be possible to send usable electrical signals to near light speed.

When Users Attack

some of the things I've seen users do to laptops.
One user took her laptop home before a long trip out of town and, out of fear of having her house broken into and her laptop stolen, hid her machine. But in an odd place; the oven! The day she was to return her mother came to her house and decided to make her daughter her favorite cake. So what do you do when you want to bake a cake? Preheat the oven! Interestingly enough, the machine still SORTA worked. The CDROM was fused to the case but the LCD still luminesced in certain areas!
While we've had the typical fried computers resulting from spilled drinks, we've also had a few that have been run over (how they ended up behind the tires I will *never* understand) as well as several that were actually urinated on. That's right, someone apparently had a few drinks and thought it would be funny to evacuate their liquid wastes on a laptop. I hope they got a nice shock!!
"The demand for instant recall of archived data is expanding as companies are meeting their obligations to quickly access executive e-mails, financial documents and transaction records," said Mike Dooley, senior director of marketing for the Desktop Products Group at Maxtor. "Users may not need to access information in these applications on a daily basis, but when they do need access, it must be instant. Recent advances in ATA technology and our manufacturing processes allow us to build upon our legacy of experience and provide our customers with a family of premium ATA hard drives that can be integrated into a variety of systems for these enterprise applications."
Instant recall? Please, what a joke. Even at 10,000 RPM it would take forever...
Oh yeah, they were strange... I remember some strange guy in a dark room walking around saying "Zelda? ZELDA?? Tektites, Octorocks, Leevers, Peahats? Zelda!"

bush is going to fight tooth and nail to keep his oil interests in power... granted, this article talks about electric cars, but still, it is clear that our current administration's long term energy policies are all about PETRO!
