  1. Interesting on STriDER, a Three-Legged Walking Robot · · Score: 1

I thought it was an interesting concept, except for the fact the body flips over. That means you can't put a torso above said tripod.

For years we've seen movies & video games show three-legged robots & critters walk around, but you've never seen the mechanics of it. The technical side of me was always curious how it could be done. If you have a standing tripod, the instant it raises a leg, you have an angled(ie not straight like a bipoed) footing for the remaining 2 legs. Add the offset center of gravity(of the body), and it's gonna tip! That moving leg better quickly move forward and plant the foot down. The other 2 legs will repeat the process in some logical order.

The robot in the article kind of chepens it with the center & rear leg doing a swing around. I think with some more research, a more proper way to walk would work that doesn't make the tripod top such an unusuable platform.

  2. Re:Weird trilogy pattern developing on Halo 3 Review · · Score: 1

While not a FPS, you can add Carmageddon to the trilogy peter-out list. The best way to kill a game series is to have a completely different developer do it, ruining it in the process. Carmageddon 2 was incredibly fun, and while the graphics in TDR were better, it was ruined with mandatory missions(probably to compensate the rather bland game premise). No more 5X combos as the engine didn't seem fast enough to detect it.

Carmageddon is a franchise I wish Rockstar would buy out, and remake with the GTA engine for some mindless derby crash 'em up fun. The controversial nature would be no problem to Rockstar.

How come no 3rd party(Mad Catz, etc) has done this yet? You would think they would sell d-pad/left analog swapped game pads for PS2 or PS3 by the truck load to Xbox converts.

As for the analog triggers, they should have made them concave-shaped so your fingers don't slip off in all the action. I guess they were more concerned with their "me too" functionality.

As for the battery life, that's why I stick with wired controllers + extension cord. It's no big deal to me to have a wire to the console.

Sometimes you see a Delorian in the twin cities. WOW are those things low to the ground. They seemed much taller in Back to the Future, but then you realize Michael J Fox is a short individual. You read about the horsepower, etc, and find out it's not the hotrod Doc Brown's car made it out to be. In today's engines, you would expect at least 300+ horsepower with a V6. But it has less power than my Mini Cooper S(that weighs 2700 lbs!).

Trust me, as a car nut, I would LOVE a Delorian. It's a car I WANT to like with its unique styling and charisma. I'd trade in my Spitfire for one in a few heartbeats. Here's my main concern:

Do you have to drop the chassis(like a chop shop would do) for repairs? That's something not even I would do. The closest I did to that was pull out a transmission & overdrive. Can't imagine a shade tree mechanic doing that for the smallest of repairs, or a not-so-frame-up restoration. If you need to do that for a minor repair, forget it. That would bring maintenance costs into BMW territory.

Perhaps some dream cars are just meant to be that: dream cars. I just saw a segment where Jeremy Clarkson drives a Lambo Countach, and outlined just how impractical it is(no rear visibility, etc). Yes, you're not supposed to get groceries in a supercar, but basic conveniences aren't too much to ask for(some comfort, reasonable maintenance, see out the rear, etc ).

MTA is just races and deathmatch only. There is the occasional NPC-like object(mines, etc) that respawn for the next player to get affected by. There's also boulders that persist for all players.

There's also GTA:MP which is a separate project for online play for GTA. Sadly, this is the ONLY game I've seen where having a low ping with the server is a penalty. Low ping means anyone that shoots you, you get hit. You try shooting them, and they seem bulletproof. I've done sharpshooting with an M4 against other players, and they don't take any damage. They shoot me 3 times with a shotgun, my player gets hit every time. I go to a server where I have 200+ ping, I shoot someone, I see their health meter go down.

The game is .20 for a reason, I guess.
