    When I got my 286, I thought it was an accomplishment to get Windows 3.0 installed on a 10 meg hard drive!

    Well, should make those GHOST images of Windows easy to transport over. Could stick 'em on a CF card.

    The Mini dealer I got mine from had 5 orphaned(no buyer to pick it up) MINIs, and they sold in three hours to other buyers.

    Take note, there's production limits on MINIs exported to USA(and probably the rest of the world), so it would make no sense to have lots and lots of them lying around.

    Sometimes its fun to look for WSFTP.LOG files and see what people have been uploading to website. You might find a file or two that's not linked from the other pages.

    Of course, it's not as fun as looking through the open "images" directories on angelfire pages. You always find stuff that's not linked from the main page.

    If your website contains nothing but static content, do you honestly need cookies, a registration system(a la mp3.com) or other garbage like that?

    I fear that the web is moving too far away from simple .html pages that don't require you to have knowledge on database programming and require it to be a fully dynamic website, just to display a text file.

    *sigh*

    Anyone remember when the only annoying website out there was geocities, just because it only had ONE popup ad?

    What ever happened to companies not selling out your info to other parties?

    Okay, probably the smart card vendors didn't get paid by DTV for the customer list, but I would be mighty angry if they gave MY info to the DirectTV goons for this exortion.

    If i had to buy a smart card reader, I would pay in cash. And no, I don't want to sign up for a catalog of special smart card reader offers.

    So what lesson did we learn? Pay in cash for legally questionable items, such as the big bad smart card reader, or hydroponics equipment.

    Find a PDA that has a standard "mic" plug on it, and go buy a telephone convo recorder at Rat Shack. That might work.

    Or if you want to be more enterprising, open up the recorder, and put shorter cords in it so it won't tangle up with his other things..

    Then find a way to mass-produce them and sell them at a high price so other people like your friend will buy them.

    I gave up on KazaaLite a month ago, since 99% of my searches ended up in no results, or the ever-so-trendy "More sources needed". Why don't they fix that?

    I'm on WinMX now, with somewhat better results(I just have to wait in cues a lot).

    The last truly great P2P program I used was AudioGalaxy. That had just about every obscure 80s tune availble to me that I could think of.

    Filtering is one thing, but that tidal wave of incoming spam still takes up valuable bandwidth. Some people, including myself, don't beleive the spammers have that right to send it to you, and want to take it a step further.

    I shouldn't have to go out of my way to prevent all this shit into my inbox. Either way, they are still taking resources out of my livelyhood to make a buck. Not kosher.

    There was an episode of SCTV with "audiogames". It featured Jerry Todd hitting buttons on a remote control, which made the guns go off(asteroids-like game). There was also a baseball game. Hilarious commercial.

    There was no woodgrain on it. Check The Bill Cosby TI-99/4A gallery and you'll see several examples.

    Beautiful shades of silver though.

    The 5.25 drive bays would be perfect for a CD-ROM, providedyou don't mind it sideways. Back in the way, it used the same floppy drives as IBM compatibles.

    I want to find an old TI-99/4A Peripheral Expansion Box. It's not unlike the standard PC case, but it's built like an Abrams battle tank. Even the cards were in small metal cases.

    I think with some creative use with the Dremel, I could re-use the power switch, put in the hard drive/power LEDs where the card ones were, and improvise on the cards in back.

    It would truly be a 1980s-lookin' PC>

    I miss my Casio phonebook/calculator watch(back from 1991). Imagine my delight when I was able to put in names/phone numbers AND do calculations!

    I also remember the el-cheapo watches that had + and = on the same key, making it useless for longer equations. Casio was ahead of the game by making + and = independent. They just added buttons on the side to facilitate input.

    Those watches were USEFUL! I also remember my Nelsonic Pac Man watch from 1982 or so. That was fun.

    Yes, but the cult favorite of SW broadcasts will always be the mysterious "numbers" stations. Now with DRM, we can get it with FM quality!

    It reminds me of the excessive amounts of mailto links everywhere on the web. Like I want to email that many people.

    It ticks me off with the quickies, since every other link is a mailto: link. How often do people use that, and would you want a slashdot effect directly to your inbox?

    I believe with .zips popularity is like that of VHS versus BETA. Sure, beta's better, but everyone adpoted VHS. Same case here.

    Old school points if you remember .ARC and .ZOO(which I think was more popular on Amiga)

    I do remember back in the day using pkzip and pkunzip as well, and then ARJ was the new kid on the block, and some warez boards went over to that.

    No ads. No spyware I know of(I gotta run adaware again).

    As for fake files on Kazaa, I never recieved one. The closest I got were mis-reported artists/songs (Beatles songs being mistaken for Paul McCartney songs, etc).

    What it seems to me is that I'm switching p2p programs every year. It was first Napster(which I NEVER had luck with), AudioGalaxy(had TONS of rare 80s tunes not seen since usenet), KazaaLite, and now WinMX.

    Is there a Trillian-like client that just wraps up all the p2p protocols into one?

    I gave up on Kazaa Lite, when 99% of the files I request are "More Sources Needed", with the remaining 1% transferring slower than a 300 baud modem.

    I just tried WinMX this weekend, and I had an amazing success rate with hard-to-find MP3s. All I have to do is wait in line, AND it finds more sources every x minutes automagically.
