Spoken like someone who has never even tried a recent Windows offering. Maybe you should do so instead of taking the word of your LUG buddies -- it may prevent you from making such false and obviously uneducated statements.
I guess that explains why this comment is currently modded as a Troll simply because the writer, gasp, compliments a Microsoft product.
Sorry, pal, on the rest of the web, Slashdot is known as being a haven for ridiculously closed-minded Linux apologists and, if anything, it's only getting worse as they circle the wagons in the face of open source's self-destruction in the business world.
And, really, that's fine. The Slashdot collective has chosen to label itself in such a manner and that's its right, but don't piss in my ear and tell me it's raining; this web site is only really useful to those who believe in open source and, more specifically, Linux. For the rest of us, reading Slashdot is like a trip to the zoo.
That is probably the most insightful analogy I've ever seen. Kudos to you, sir. Kudos again.

The only possible reason why you could be this offended by a relatively harmless "point and laugh at Fatty" session is that you are almost impossibly fat yourself. True? How about, instead of flapping your Crisco-moistened gums in a fruitless attempt to insult anyone, you get off that pudding of an ass and do something to burn off those healthy 5500 daily calories.
What it boils down to is this -- unless you are crippled or otherwise incapable of excercise, take your Fat Pride somewhere else. I work hard to maintain my svelte 180lb frame and have no intention of respecting you equally because you don't have the same ambition.
I would ask you to not breed as well, but I doubt that's an issue, am I right or am I right?

Stop eating fatty!
I tried, but once I got my first bite of fatty, I was hooked. Hooked, I tells ya!
Even though you don't seem unintelligent, I'll put this in an easily understandable way:
Linux does not equal good business. Revenue from support? Please. Who on earth would possibly pay for the same support than can be had via literally countless newsgroups, mailing lists and FAQs? What is there to even really stand behind? Linux, by it's own doing, can't be a commercial product and thus is simply not appropriate for any business model that attempts to stay afloat by slinging OSS.
While I have no doubt that the real hard-cores around here will deny these harsh truths until the sun goes down, Linux's nonviability as the staple of any business has long been a no-brainer for those of us who can see past our ideals.

Okay, for me, it's the exact opposite. IE loads much, much faster and continues to be faster in usage... it's not even close.
With a level playing field, IE still wins. Who's right?
That way, if you don't agree with the poster, you can still mark them as Troll
And this fact is the biggest single problem with Slashdot. Since when does an opposing view equal trolling? Sadly, that's exactly what moderation is used for around here and until that gets fixed, stupid ideas like filtering ACs are a pathetic attempt at stopping the bloodflow.
Or, complete horseshit here. You don't really think that this "forum" has any intention of carefully listening to legitimate OSS gripes and then acting to fix them, do you? It's just another excuse to fire up the circlejerk yet again.
If you don't care about the fact that doing so immediately means that more than 90% of the desktop world has no use for whatever you're cobbling together, go ahead.
Oh, but then you're a martyr for freedom and everyone around here is your best buddy. Ask them to contribute to the bottom line and they never knew you, but they're very happy to pay lip service because it's free and requires no personal commitment.
Sadly, one can't pay bandwidth bills with pats on the back.
Dude, it's okay -- no one expects you, as a USian, to admit when anything's wrong or when you lag behind. There's no need to keep demonstrating your -- giggle -- superiority, the rest of the world already knows what's what.
Look, why even bother with a facade of impartiality around here anymore? This question has been asked a million times and is nothing more than an excuse to fire up another open source circle jerk.
You don't really think Slashdot users would objectively say "yes, MP3 sounds better" when there's an inch of political ground to be gained by throttling an alternative that toes the OSS party line? It's a real shame what has become of this place.
The whole point of open source is *more* choice, not less.
That is an outright lie. The real "point" of open source, at least the one that is voiced with amazing frequency around this place, is making a software choice that fulfills your political goals regardless of how it actually functions.
It's not actually about the best tool for any job at all anymore (if it ever was). Ever heard the "yes, MSIE is better, but you should use Mozilla because it's not Microsoft" rationale?
If that were indeed the case, Slashdot would have the only trolls kind enough to, following convention, add a [goatse.cx] tag after each instance of the link.
Adult chat rooms? Although, if you're writing War And Peace-esque content in such a situation, the logistics of typing are probably not a prime concern.
Oh, so you suddenly get to determine everyone else's ethical stance. How nice. Go back to your coffee shop, you unemployed dork.

Bee-yootiful. Kudos to you.
There are already too many Slashdot poles being abused around this place.

Hypocrite.
If only you could see Rob in the same light some of us do.
Is this another euphemism for breasts or have we moved past that part of your post? Sorry, I get distracted.
