umm.. spammers have not stopped me filtering through my email for the actual mail .. I would consider spam that the single most successful poisoning campaign in the history of man. Yet, somehow I still use email. We ahve filters and RBL lists (these could simply be used to to identify p2p spammers and blackhole them) and whalla.. You have an entire new industry built up around this.. Guess I better start hacking up some RBL code to work with gnutella eh?

Obviously you keep your head in the sand and don't realize that in general these things are happening years ahead of time *before* a journalist actually ever figures it out and thinks "Hey, I could write about that." Journalists are notorious for doing this as is evident in the fact that most just in the last couple of years have figured out that not every internet address has to end in ".com" and/or start with "www." Start reporting them to spamcop.net for some reason spamcop decides that it is a good idea to check the box next to *your* service providers name automatically. Sends report to my service provider. My service provider in getting so many of these all the time, don't bother to look at them and realize I am the one reporting this crap. My domain hosting is turned off without warning or even an email explaination of why. Total time.. one week. On a bright note, I talked with them and they went and looked a the reports and realized the error and turned my account back on within one hour. But still.. this should *not* have happened.. Yea.. It really irks me to no end that every piece of software you every seem to get off the shelves seems to follow the same thought as a downloaded product that you can patch it up as you go.. (take windows-update for example) and I always end up feeling like I am endlessly beta-testing everything, down to my OS (luckily I run windows under vmware, so at least it reboots faster).. So as far as security goes in MS products, because I treat it as an endless "beta" and the fact that off the shelf, windows seems to barely work, I am not surprised as each new security hole comes up. In all reality, the fact that they obscure everything seems to make people all the more interested in digging around in it. just my 2-cents..
