one, this is in effect his blog... two, the guy is "listened" to because of where he comes from and what he has done.
Your specific gripe about NT.. He is not talking about windows hackers, he is talking about guys who demand "control" (RTA.. again..) and you will not get that control in windows.. I am sorry to burst your bubble, but it is just not there.
I was reading through that article and when I got the point he makes on Java (which I will admit to sharing his point) all I thought was.. "Oh great, now the article will only have posts from the Java duuuudes who resent anything not done in java" Truth be told and after thinking back through my ten years working as a programmer in many companies, I agree, I have *never* met a true hacker who programmed in java, and I don't think that is a bad thing. In fact, java is what they teach in college, so, it goes to show that it is what the "average" person is going to be using. There are a lot of java jobs (not jobs I would want, and in fact would prefer to sling coffee at a starbucks than work with it again) and they are there for the people who know java. However, I am curious about python as the language of choice, as I would think that C would trump python, but either way, python does rock hard and seriously. (though python specific jobs are just not out there as much). Anyway, back to my point. As a side to that article, hackers having that ability to concentrate, yes.... They do.. Most all of them have some form of ADD or OCD however to counterbalance that ability to focus on things they are intense on.. Wandering around a toy store with a hacker will teach anyone patience. Paul Graham I feel has very good line on the pulse of this industry.
in conjunction with what that article says. you can click-bomb out other advertisers (killing their daily limits by 1am) so that your super cheapo ad is displayed at the top of your keywords. At the same time you can get the revenue for that, but I would think that it might look a little fishy if you did that.
However, clickbombing is really the new issue.. more so that this.
We will not be having AI until we get programs to write other programs better than we can. Once that happens and the app is reprogramming itself and is given some simple contructs to interact with the world (camera/sensors) and introduced to some rules about how it works then the AI will build itself. IMHO sitting around trying to train structured programs rules and grammer is stupid because it is only pretending intelligence based on a clever set of rules. Until it can build programs to handle various cases and then review those programs as needs arise it will not ever come close.
that is what this article should be called.. a troll article written about a troll article.
yea yea yea.. perl people are smarter than php people. java duuudes are smarter than the whole world and now, a mac user thinks they are smarter than a PC user.. bla bla bla bla.. apparently a lot of people don't remember usenet when it was worth a damn and the old beige-toaster argument about the mac users and their babbling about how they are "better"..... this is not news, it is a troll.
Yep, linux coder here and moving to mono for new development. So far, it is pretty damn cool and I am very happy with it. It is exciting starting fresh in a new language. I recommend it.
so along that vein, you must change your own oil, sparkplugs and rotate your tires yourself?
most people just "use" cars.. they are simply a tool, just like a computer. A browser is a simple tool, if it requires popping the hood and fiddling with air filters, most people would rather not.
Wonder if that can be run in mono.. installing to find out.
I have been playing in GTK getting sprites and such working, but would like to use this for more portability...NET terriarium is damn cool http://www.windowsforms.net/default.aspx?tab Index= 6&tabId=42 Check it
have you read the authors bio?

glad to see "justice" is being done.
would like to see them thrown out of the entire country myself (not just court)..
Good precendent to set though..

so that would explain the 26,000 patents that MS has been busy filing to lock down everything in the world.
ahhh..
world domination..
never would have thought MS would stoop so low..

From March 12th.
and of course slashdot in some stupid "poop in the eye" moment screwed the story completely up because a cluebie posted the article.
Sheesh, that article is about MySQL's license which they had changed to not allow vendors to redistribute the server and the client.
php has it's license info here:
http://www.php.net/license/
ahh the stuff of books...
:)
but, also the issue with anything.. children can turn against parents.. just keep the guns locked up..
wait for the first AI net strike

Just my two cents..

sucks
Microsoft (MSFT) today announced it's new patent on H2O and will begin licensing talks soon.
That is a big no.
First, it obviously wasn't compiled with mono.. second, it is packaged in an msi file which is a pain under linux.
However, this mono 1.0 is rockin...
loving the monodevelop
Cheers
