wasn't this same thing done in a james bond movie from the about the early 80's?
I seem to remember him picking off some fake fingerprints he used to pick up a wineglass with at some womans place (who 'gasp' turned out to be a spy for the 'other' side..)
most of the books don't cover the topics of cli-based php which is unfourtunate. Things like php-ncurses and php-gtk or even how to properly debug cli apps and it is strange saying there is a large following of PHP commandline (cli) people out there.
Anyway, always good to see more books at any rate.
this guy is "normal" non-tech user. he used all 'download and run' services, he built nothing himself. I think the real money being made here is providing these programs and websites for them to use and also the lists. This is interesting stuff to consider and would make an interesting business model to create spamware for the spammers and then feed the data to places like spamhaus etc.
People have on average 28 spyware programs? holy crap!!
well, at least this is another notch in the belt of opensource.
That just amazes me. I tried a while back to see how easy it was to create one and installed a windows machine and hacked together an easy directx control that installed itself on page load and changed (just for testing) the word "Yahoo" into the word "Shit" and then had fun surfing aroud on "Shit! mail" and "Shit! autos".. It took a total of about two hours to create in Delphi and I am a unix programmer not a windows programmer.
Just thinking how easy it would have been to make one that replaced 460x80 images with one from one of my servers and this really does not surprise me.
From: Oh, come on. On what planet does it make sense to require e.g. generating SWF (Macromedia Flash) files to either be built in to the core language, or excluded altogether requiring a recompile to install that functionality?
Specifically:
"either be built in to the core language, or excluded altogether requiring a recompile to install that functionality"
Is a complete untrue statement, I dynamically load modules all the time in code where in places (I.e. dedicated hosting platforms) I do not want to compile it into the "core".
I stand by my statement.
You have 'NO' idea what you are talking about. take a look at http://us2.php.net/manual/en/function.dl.php whic h is the function to load a PHP extension at runtime....
I always look at these "my car is faster than your car" things.
C is 'the' language. Assembly is faster (for obviously reasons)
You cannot write a java compiler in java, it is written (and funny, that) in this case in C++
soo.. I would say your benchmarks are probably problematic and not taking enough time or crunching enough data or something.
It is nice that you are all into your language that (in my personal opionion was nothing more ever than a buzzword that got out of control) but really now.. You do realize that slashdot would not print a "C is faster than Java" story because most people already know that, they posted your story because they know that about 100 people will post benchmarks that will make you crawl back in your java hole to lick your wounds.
But, that is just my opinion on this grumpy night..
I added a few things, thoughts etc from people on the NYPHP list and others who have contacted me. I added in a few base functions for doing XPM alpha-blending as well as the output from Glade to see how easy it would be to write a Glade->php-gtk parser.
As for the "perl duuudes" on here, perl is fine for what it is, I use it. However, in this particular instance perl is not an option as I work in a PHP shop and this is actually a project for my work.. On that note however, I 'have' been steadily replacing perl scripts with PHP scripts as they are superior for doing a lot of what I do and working with our established libraries which are not in perl.
And in response to the "PHP puts everything in global namespace" comment, you obviously have not used PHP in a long time. Or you didn't bother to read through the docs when you installed it.
What we *REALLY* need is a delphi-like interface for widgets in PHP-GTK. Either that or a program to transform exisiting GTK projects (i.e. widgets yadda yadda) into easy use with PHP.. That gives me some ideas now.
I think it is quite appropriate saying it is for 'rapid' prototyping of windowed apps that can be used by both the developers (linux) and managers (windows) and they are both looking at the same thing. Besides, in this situation you don't have to have the windows people going in and logging into the unix machines via putty or whatever to see the ncurses version of the monitor. Just have them download php-gtk which is practically a plugin at this point and they can create desktop icons or whatever for the app. Makes my life easier and theirs and I can crank out apps and debug them fast with how I have it set it up. Appropriate is in the eye of the manager in this case.
umm.. I was not going to respond to this.. but just in case someone else might happen to think you are correct for some strange reason.
If you actually poke around in RFC's you might notice that languages generally don't have them (markup does, but XML which is what RDF/RSS/Atom is built on already has an RFC). Poke around http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/ and see, you are generally trying to have top-level projects for RFC's, not a subproject.
RSS is a vocabulary built on XML and therefore would never warrant an RFC.
At this point everything is "proposed" and saying these are not "protocols" and just "vocabularies" and RFC is not appropriate.
There are some geek-muscles being flexed about in RDF/RSS and people want to maintain control over it (same with FOAF, which I am dealing with often) that is why the Atom guys came up with their own, it is a rewrite they came up with that addressed problems they had been reporting/asking for fixes for (or at least extensions for) for quite a while to no avail.
Anyway, it is a big pissing contest still, if google jumps in and picks a side, it is game over.

That is all I want to know.. ....
That site practically hosed my browser (about 20 tabs open)
I mean.. isn't she a frail little girl now?
babelfish.altavista.com is just not quite up to the task is it...
And you really would not want it in your ear!!
it was actually the roll not pitch angle..
if he had done a 90 deg turn at that speed he would not be talking about it.
yea.. I saw that..
pretty interesting...
thanks

hope this article does not recruit more spammers.
that would just suck..
I am a nanotechnologist this means nothing to me.
used to like the BB..
now they can suck... well..
later 'BOYS'
I normally will *never* respond to a AC post..

WTF are you talking about you complete moron?
you my friend..
you might have the saddest ever response to a question I have ever posed...
read what you wrote...

I think that is some of the unknowns from guns n' roses or some other pop band from the 90's who are trying to reclaim some *cough money* fame.
something like that..
they have posters plastered on every street corner here in manhattan.
Why are people not using this:

php for everything..
There is actually a group of people who are going to attempt to write an entire OS in 100% php (see dotgeek)..
