Since the moratorium was adopted, the support for it has dropped from a 75% majority to a 50-50 split, with many of the countries initially recruited by the anti-whaling side now voting with the pro-whaling block. (A 75% majority is needed to overturn the moratorium.) Anti-whaling campaign groups and some governments claim that the Japanese Fisheries Agency has carried out a programme of "vote-buying" - i.e. offering aid to poorer countries in return for them joining the IWC and supporting Japanese positions on whaling. Specifically, Japan has given US$320 million in overseas aid to Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, Guinea, Morocco, Panama, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, St Kitts and Nevis and the Solomon Islands.

The MiniDiscNetMD data transfer protocol hasn't been cracked; the libnetmd open source project accomplished some of its goals but has gone dormant having failed to crack the audio data encryption.
Yeah, I know, who cares? Well, a few of us do/did... MD was a good technology for its time, but crippled by DRM and other restrictions.
I've got version 2 of this mouse (what's changed? The shape has been further refined in subtle details based) and while it definitely provides relief - I've tried various mice and trackballs over the years - it completely freezes once or twice a week and has to be re-plugged into the computer's USB port to unwedge it. This is a minor problem with a trivial workaround, but I've never had any pointing device that didn't keep working all the time...
During an interview with InformationWeek, Brian Croll, senior director of product marketing for the Mac OS, said, "ZFS is not happening," when asked whether Sun's Zettabyte File System would be in Leopard.
The followup you quoted regards Croll not choosing to explain Schwartz' contradictory claim (hence the "retaliation" speculation.)
As for the Mac commercials, I don't know where that report came from that said I wasn't going to do it anymore - I'm literally setting my alarm right now to wake up for a Mac shoot tomorrow -we're doing some holiday spots now which I think will be pretty funny. They're easy to do, I love John (the pc guy) and working with him is so effortless and fun that I definitely wouldn't rule out doing some more.
The Firefox and Opera browsers come with Google set as the default, but [vice president for search products at Google Marissa] Mayer said Google would support unfettered choice on those as well.
Camino is an OS X native browser using the gecko rendering engine.... faster than Safari
I don't know what the evidence for this claim is, but my (warm app, cold cache) tests on a few sites showed Camino to range from similar to slower than Safari.
and apparently is more secure than Safari.
Read the Secunia article - this isn't a Safari security hole, it's an underlying platform issue and can be exploited in other ways. Besides, the Mozilla family browsers have had their share of security holes.
There are only laws that make in sort that everything must be written in french on commercial products, and that the french must occupate the same space than the english.
(Obligatory disclaimer: I love visiting Québec and do so regularly, but...)
I believe you're wrong about the signage law, which requires French sized twice the English, and Google turns up numerous references to this:
In line with this opinion, the Charter of the French Language (section 58) was eventually amended to allow the concurrent use of another language provided that the French language portion of a public sign, poster or commercial advertising was "markedly predominant." Regulations were also adopted that define the latter expression as ensuring for the French text a much greater visual impact than the other language used. The regulations also establish that a much greater visual impact is achieved if the space occupied by the French text is twice as large as that accorded to the other language used, and if the same ratio of two to one is reflected in the size of the French text itself.
The original version of the sign law, better known as Bill 101, barred all languages other than French on outdoor commercial signs. The law was amended in 1993, after the United Nations Human Rights Committee intervened, calling it a human-rights violation. The new law requires that French be "markedly predominant."
I'd like to point out that LCD backlighting is generally provided by a fluorescent device that contains toxic mercury - yes, just a little, but multiplied times millions of panels...
Thus LCD displays should also be recycled or disposed of properly, not just incinerated or buried.
For each of the past 12 years (1993-2004), IBM has been granted more U.S. patents than any other company. During that period IBM has received 29,021 US patents. In 2004, IBM received 3,248 U.S. patents.
...IBM's current active portfolio of about 25,000 patents in the United States and over 40,000 patents worldwide for inventions in areas of primary technology focus for all IBM customers...
One more tip: Tiger (10.4) is due out 1H05, so waiting a few months until it's included with new hardware will save you a ~$100 upgrade (price varies with rebates & education discounts.)
The compression effect works nicely for removing clicks and pops from recordings (don't apply post compression gain for this!); the low pass filter is easier sometimes or you may need the pencil; use the magnifer (on the control toolbar) to magnify on one pop for selection.

RCN dropped newsgroup support last week without prior notice.
Even though they've said the decision is final, I suggest commenting directly on the Netflix blog post as hundreds of others are doing...

Right - and meanwhile, Netflix said (at their recent quarterly earnings call) that their online movie download service will launch in 2005.
Of course the UK could stop being obstinate and adopt the Euro like (most of) the rest of Europe...

They kept the newsgroups (rebranded as Google Groups), but phased out the email service.
