This way, people have to take the time to copy and past the correct URL, and it distibutes the load more evenly. It's ingenious!

Most of the time the projects are done late at night, in a room that I share with no one, with a bed near by as well as other comforts. Feeling bloated in these situations doesn't bother me. And when I say chug, I don't mean like 20 or 30 of em. I'm talking maybe 5 or 6 at most. Sure, I may get bloated as a result of whatever else I'm feeding myself at the time, but I'll just head straight to sleeping afterwards, so it doesn't bother me. But if all I do is drink a couple cans, then I'll be alright. I guess if I was addicted to pop/soda, then I could see your point, but I really only drink the stuff once in a great while - not always carrying around a can or bottle like you see some people doing.

These sorts of statements are exactly what is not needed here. Why try to divide up the current population of people who support the ideas at hand on Slashdot and other techie guru places. A community like this needs to stay together and grow, we don't these sort of segregating statements.

I've tasted diet a couple times here and there, and all I can say is that stuff prolly tastes worse than the bottom of a hobo's foot. Diet anything is nasty. Now, regular stuff is good. Pretty much regular anything of whatever your favorite flavor will do, but I don't seem to notice any of the addiction problems you talk of. If I have a CS project due, I'll stay going for several hours of pure programming, chugging *insert non-Diet flavor here* and then just stop after I'm done. I won't have another pop to drink for a couple weeks even, until the next project comes up that is. And even then, I only chug em if they are avilable. If they aren't, I'l just go for some juice or something, or even water if there's nothing else or I am feeling like going for the healthy stuff. :)

For simplicity, we'll assume the person in question is driving down a dirt road in the middle of Iowa, where no one lives within 100 miles of the person's location at any given moment during the analysis. As well, the person is using a satellite phone, so the person will have reception, not being hindered by the absence of any local towers.

The difference between someone voluntarily receiving a cell call versus not wanting to receive a cell call from someone should be pretty obvious. Lets look at this way: Is it against the law to shoot yourself in the foot? No. Is it against the law to shoot someone else in the foot? Usually Yes. Pretty much the same thing, Capiche?

Actually, that would be in violation of federal law. See 47 CFR - CHAPTER I - PART 64.1200 subsection (a)(1)(iii) regarding unsolicited telephone calls to devices in which the recipient is charged for incoming calls.

This portion actually deals with automatic calling machines and prerecorded or artificial messages, but you can read further on and in other code to find the exact statements. Besides the fact that you could claim any calls made to you without your expressed prior consents while driving pose a threat to your health.

This would allow for the core sleep time and stages 4 and 5 of your sleeping. This is approaching regular sleeping time though, so I'm not sure how efficient it would be for some people's lives. And when I have taken naps in the evening before, I usually wake disoriented and out of whack.

CNN is the best available to Americans. NBC? ABC? FOX? hahah, gimme a break. If CNN's reporting was on crack, then NBC's, ABC's, and FOX's news reporting would have already died from overdosing. You could try to get your news from the radio via NPR, but even their news can be quite sensationalistic at times, perhaps equivalent to smoking some MJ on the weekends. The only viable solution is to turn to online news from alternative sources, perhaps the BBC, etc (alternative for Americans).

Sure, I'll agree with you that broadband isn't all that expensive, but it isn't exactly dirt cheap. Paying $600 to $700 a year for the monthly fee and other additional charges can hurt sometimes. Not to mention all the various outages and such of the service throughout the year. The money we currently pay is neither highway robbery nor dirt cheap, it is acceptable.

And sure, internet connections may seem like a luxury, but does that mean service providers can just jerk us around? Uh, buddy, no way. Eating at a restaurant is a luxury, but do you expect them to bring you a salad with cockroaches running around in it? No, didn't think so.

The broadband companies are rolling in the dough too, I dunno where you got this illusion that they are practically giving their bandwidth away at 'dirt cheap' prices. The hardcore users who may download several isos a week may be using a lot more of the bandwidth than they necessarily 'paid for' (whatever the hell that means, most people have signed an agreement for a speed, not a quantity). However, the 99% of the users that just check their email and surf through some pages barely use a couple bucks worth of bandwidth a month. The raise in prices isn't to cover the companies losses (haha, right - losses) or additional service equipment to take care of the hardcore users. It's just an excuse to try and pump some more money out of the subscribers.

The broadband companies aren't losing a dime in any of this, they are charging in such excess for the bandwidth they provide that the gross profits cover all of expenses at least once and over.
