I didn't fall *on* my laptop - my feet went straight out in front of me and I fell on my ass. The bottom of my bag hit the pavement. (The side of the laptop was the part that hit the ground). But I can see what you are saying. Thanks for the tip on the specific gravity constant.;)
I had my 12" PowerBook in a ZeroShock sleeve from Shinza.com (Polyurthethane instead of Neoprene but close enough). I was carrying it in my backpack. I was walking home while it was snowing, and couldn't see the ice under the snow. I slipped feet out and landing flat on my ass, with my backpack hitting the ground. My PowerBook was dead when I opened it at home. As it turns out, the motherboard and Superdrive were busted. Thankfully I got it fixed for only the cost of a new bottom of the PB case.
The point of this post is that even with a thick sleeve and a backpack, you are no where close to bomb proof. I am jealous when I hear about all these other people dropping their notebooks/Powerbooks but the computer itself is fine. I didn't even think I hit it that hard, but mine was totalled.
That made me think of something. I wonder if the reason why there are so few hardware Ogg players because Ogg is mostly used by Linux users. And to some extent, Linux is often run on old hardware. More so than Windows and certainly more so than Mac. Linux is also free as in beer. Like you, maybe many Ogg users don't have the cash to pay for new hardware. So they don't have the cash/won't spend it on Ogg players either. So they don't sell, so companies don't make them.
Well, they arguably do support a format that saves 30% more space - AAC. While I'm no audiophile, I'd say (and many others) a 128 Kbit AAC sounds at least as good as a 160 Kbps VBR MP3s. If I understand correctly, it's also less computationally intensive than Ogg. (No floating point required?)
Not sure if that was meant to be funny or not. But for those that don't get the allusion, it's pretty serious stuff. Here's the article from May 2003 Harper's. The guy documents overdosing on drugs in a chatroom and dies as everyone else debates whether he is serious/tries to call for help.
My friend sent his in to get fixed under warranty and got a brand new one back. Apple might not say it's brand new but if you've had an iPod a while, the back gets scratched/scuffed up. The repaired one is pristine. I've heard similar experiences on ipodlounge.com.

Not so much special as distinctive - white. I see them more and more now at university. I wonder how many iPod users are using their own headphones, like me? I can't pick them out very easily.

So you'd say GM *is* crapping on their customers in this hypothetical? I'd say Apple is doing the equivalent of what GM would do. Telling him not to do it. Just format the thing as FAT32, all will be well.
You're joking me. The guy trying to use the iPod in an unsupported manner. The original 5GB iPod works perfectly with Windows iTunes when formatted as a Windows iPod. I should know, I have one and am using it this way. Is GM crapping on their customers because they don't provide support for you filling a gasoline car with diesel?
Ummm, I might be missing something but I really doubt it. I think you are mixing up the bandwidth with the bitrate of the file. They have very little to do with each other.
Looking at the MyTunes site confirms my suspicions:
The CNET story on MyTunes described it as a "stream capturer". This is wrong. MyTunes allows you to obtain the exact original file, unlike "stream capturers", which record music that's streaming and save the recorded audio to disk.
I have a original 5 GB unit and it works very well for jogging. (In the gym around a soft-ish running track - but I'm not very graceful). I didn't know only the 5GB were optimal for jogging. Interesting.
New technologies take time to get established. Obvious but true. Think of how long it took for video rental stores to get a DVD section.

I find that interesting. I just started running but I wouldn't say I find it mind-numbing. It's so difficult for me I'm not able to focus on anything else. Just focus on putting one foot in front of the other, breathing regularly, etc. As someone else said, it's also good to clear your mind - I find it impossible to worry about anything else much when I'm running.
That said I do enjoy playing squash too - mostly for the competition I think.

Hmmmm. Can a hard drive fit into that form factor? I don't know very much about HD form factors.
Wow. As someone else said, thanks for the great post. It's so easy to forget what really matters sometimes.
It's illegal to murder those who commit SO-DIMMy.
Dont worry, Blaster will shut it down FOR YOU before you are even able to go Start -> Shutdown.

Interesting, but I'd bet on ThinkSecret's accuracy before MOSR.com's 100 times out of 100.

He was joking dude. (Don't know why it was modded interesting)

You've got to be kidding me. Microsoft has to be hundreds or thousands of times larger than Google in terms of worth.
Quickly, everyone whip yourselves into a frenzy!
