That seems pretty simplified to me. Humans also like wealth which doesn't always go hand in hand w/ OS. This one is a bit trollish, but if humans like freedom so much, why is nothing being done about the Patriot Act, DMCA, etc?
I read an article from James McManus in the December 2000 issue of Harper's Magazine about the World Series of Poker. It was absolutely facinating. There are quite a few characters in the high stakes poker world. I haven't read the book, but read this article for a sample of what it's all about.
AMD!= x86 indeed. Outside of the Slashdot world this is fairly well known. Just speculation but I'd guess x86 is their least profitable area. They make tonnes of ICs for various purposes. Their flash memory is probably the most common. Lots of A2Ds, D2As and stuff too.
When you're in a car, or flying cross-country on a plane, or stuck in a hotel room somewhere, or visiting family, or when you're camping somewhere -- these are non-critical listening environments, and highly compressed audio is not a problem.
But that's where 99.9% of people do listen to music. They (we) don't have critical listening environments. MP3 has had unbounded success because it's good enough for 99.9% of people.
Heheh. I like asking this question to friends but if I'm in a position to ever interview, maybe I'll ask it too. The question is "So, what do you think?". It must be delivered out of the blue. The only wrong answer is "about what?" Any thought about anything else satisfies me.
Are you kidding me, could it get any easier? The answer to 2 is "make sure they are worn female ones and then sell them". I don't think you've been to enough p0rn sites on the web!
Things make much more sense when you realize that their intention is not to ensure security. Their intention is to dominate the world.
Well said. I'm no fan of US foreign policy, but I would have said you were insane even a couple weeks ago. That was until I saw this site, New American Century. It's from the neo-conservatives currently running the country. (I mean really running it, I think Bush is somewhat of a figurehead.) That site is seriously disturbing. Have a look. They don't try and hide the fact that their intention is to dominate the world.
"Some of the best educated people in the world have been the most terrible."
The argument of increasing the education of the general populous would help prevent this. Those "best educated" but "most terrible" people were unchallenged because the general populous didn't know any better.
Good point there. Original post was correct that some of the most terrible people have been the most educated, but could it be said that the key difference is they were significantly more educated than the people they exploited?
I'm not sure how many of you know this but I only found this out the other day and think it's pretty cool. This Zire 71 (and some other new Palms I think) ses a TI OMAP processor which is a C55x DSP with a ARM core on chip. So it's able to do fast DSP routines and fast microprocessor routines.
Capt'n Hector - So you are the guy that has been bugging me in Escape Velocity! I'd like to have some words with you. Meet me at the bike racks at 3pm.
Are you serious? Generally programs don't go searching through the registry. The parameters they use are at fixed locations (that they set). They usually read configuration paramaters upon startup and write them upon exit. And it's not like you are checking prefs all the time. And I also fail to see how this approach has any significant advantage over reading from a small local file either. I'm almost positive it has nothing to do with the responsiveness of the system.
I do agree with you that the registry building up over time eventually causes problems. File associations, preferences that don't change when you uninstall/reinstall, etc.
I don't know about that. My family loves it on their XP PC. When someone is hogging the computer and someone else wants to just check their email, they can switch over and quickly check it without anyone having to quit their programs or log off. It's not totally obvious how to use it though, they had to be shown.
I was trying this open source Basilisk II Mac emulator (it does an incredible job btw, try it out if you wanna play some old Mac games like Bolo!) and needed to install a web browser. So I downloaded Netscape Navigator 2 and gave it a whirl. The funny thing was it would choke on Netscape's current default homepage - too much crap on it. I guess they don't regression test. hehe. Of course, it handled Google.com came to the rescue.
The main coder is female? Wow that's pretty sweet. I bet not many news outlets running their GTA-is-the-root-of-all-evil-and-is-corrupting-teen age boys stories would have predicted that.

Inhalation of dihydrogen monoxide causes thousands of deaths every year. Ban it, it's dangerous!
Do you know what Fred Durst looks like when he's singing? It's pretty much like that. Actually maybe it's more Zach de la Rocha ish.

Hehe, what a domain name.
Last time I checked, Apple didn't make any motion pictures. Or maybe they are making a bid for Paramount now?
You're new here aren't you? ;)

Revenue != Profit
OK, I confess. I don't even know what the allusion is to but it seems to get a lot of people a lot of karma.
Not with that sig you aren't!

The already beleagured disk community was hit with a crippling bombshell today... etc etc... Truly and American icon.
Wow neato! This will revolutionize the world. Our cell phones can power everything in life by just vibrating more.
or...
Oh man, this JN character is gonna get it. Let the flames commence!
or...
The inevitable vibrator jokes are too good to pass up. I must post it.
In this house, we OBEY the laws of thermodynamics!
