So fun was poked at the use of BSD's cute daemon. Odd how an educated person, such as the author (?), did not mention the _other_ acceptable definitions of "daemon".

For your enlightening pleasure: yes, I acknowledge the fact that "daemon"/"demon" _can_ be synonymous. Yet, "daemon" comes from the Greek word "daimon", which means "divine power." In Greek mythology, a daemon is a lesser deity. A daemon can also be considered an attendant spirit, or better yet, a genius! (All definitions from my trusty American Heritage College Dictionary.)

So the author _appears_ to be computer-literate. Apparently not a sponsor of Apple, nor does he seem to be a fan/endorser of Open Source. What does that leave us? A proud registered user of the Micro$oft Cru$ade? Please! Of all people, Bill Gates has not made a pledge to Chri$tianity ... or has he? I can assure you this: the devil's work it is not.

So I sit here in front of my PC, catching my daily dose of /. when I come across this interesting post.

Considering the fact that I am not an Hawaiian ecologist, I do not understand the dangers of the coquí's presence in Hawaii. Here, on its native island, it is harmless and it had been rumored that it couldn't survive anywhere else outside of PR. To think that it has survived in Hawaii must be exciting news for Puerto Rican ecologists ... but as the saying goes: one man's trash is another man's treasure ... of course, this case, it is the other way around.

Yes, the coquís are cute and tiny and chirp like it's nobody's business. Their half female-attracting, half male-warning calls are not annoying. Raining season coming in, the night is filled with "co-QUI co-QUI" -- it really does make for a pleasant natural soundtrack.

I am 21, not a teen, not exactly an adult ... age aside, I would never go see ANY teen movie. They are hyperboles of the unfortunate society found in the USofA. Why doesn't the public go and see foreign movies at their local Fine Arts Theater? Movies don't need a lot of funding to be of high quality. Look at the excellent films from Spain, France, even Iran (here I am referring to "The Circle"). Check out "Abre los ojos" (subtitled as "Open Your Eyes"), don't go see "Vanilla Sky" (it's the English HOLLYWOODIZED remake). The orginal film leaves one thinking ... the remake leaves less to the imagination ... Please go out and support the arts.

I wish printing would be less challenging. I upgraded to RH7.2, AND ONLY RH7.2 :), not to long ago and have yet come around to configurating my printer. It is quite a hassle being that the distribution does not come with the appropriate drivers. (That is what I get for buying a recently released printer!) Found the drivers ... now it's all a matter of getting enough courage to dive head first into the atrocity known as printer configuration! :)

The problem with some people that know a lot of information don't know how to communicate their knowledge, pass it on to those who know less. I find that my best teacher in learning Linux has been my own errors. There are the guru's who talk with their acronyms and command lines ... they do not take the time to break their advise into words a little less hi-tech so that we may quickly fend for ourselves. Unfortunately, working in groups is something we all have to face. I am currently coursing through my undergraduate CS program and this semester in OS, everything is done in groups. Everybody knows that that group work hoovers! It is quite impossible to honestly divide the tasks and say that everyone put their fair share to the final product when you have one arrogant programmer who thinks he's the C guru and everyone else is just ... well ... everyone else just doesn't count. CS isn't exactly the ideal program to enforce honest group work knowing the 'antisocial ... nature' of the students.
