Are commercial linux distro's these days crippled (completely as in, read & do it yourself) when it comes to java run time engines not being part of the distro ? or is that only the free GPL versions you can DL ? or is it a more wide thing even among commercial linux?
I mean, i know windows xp doesn't come with java anymore installed from the boot cd due to politics with Sun some time back. Is it the same with linux distro's too ?

Story = How many games have a story tacked on ~just to explain~ why you're shooting at people or aliens or terrorists? It's not length of story, but quality of story.
Interactivity and joint Story Telling with other living people in a virtual environment. MMO'a remind me of table top pen and pencil gaming of the early 80's. Mud's and dungeon crawls dressed up in fancy gfx, but little more. Sure, there are RPing guilds in EQ, but that's not what i'm talking about.

i tried to install java on mandrake 9, aka the JVM.. v1.4.1 or whatever the most recent version is after finding out to my horror it doesn't come pre-installed as I need to use a java applet from the web everyday for hours on end.
Nada.. i tried this & tried that, making sure to install the bunndle of joy DL'd from sun as su & still zilch.
Then one day it just wouldn't boot after freezing solid while logging out of a user. On reboot, it just hung at "Kernal" something.. 2nd line in the boot sequence. endlessly. Wouldn't accept commands from the console, or give me an error number or explanation. I've not used it since.
i'd like to. it's nice. but no java. & then total system death.
I'd really like to use linux & use mandrake... but currently, i dunno.
Games with real advertising where it is in the real world are what i want.
Playing sports games with boring fictional ads on the side lines and in various other places in the game that everyone knows are where REAL ads should be be found in the game or sport is just annoying.
If it's in the game, it should be IN THE GAME, right ?
Define what you need. Don't settle for the advertised price, recognize the concept of mark-up. Be willing to pay good money for good gear, and don't always go with the prices offered at the first store you come to.
It helps to buy somethings over the summer when everyone's on vacation. Prices can be lower, the store more quiet and the sales people more relaxed and less stressed.
Will it be possible to get a seat by the window ? Or will they offer economy command line flights... the jets being much faster and streamlined after all;)

When you activate WinXP over the phone, you have to deal with a computer voice system where you type in numbers.

it looks kinda like a make up kit.. especially where the screen is.. which kind of reflects the light in the advertisement like a mirror..
