Radidly moving to 64-bit? Even with all the pumping up of AMD64 I've yet to see a killer app for 64-bit. Even with Windows Vista support for 64-bit in late 06 or early 07 I don't see 64-bit being a must have until mid to late 2007.
Sure AMD beat Intel to 64 bit x86 instructions but I don't think it was really needed on the consumer desktop.
I suppose C|Net could be right, there's nothing technically stopping a 'switch' to Intel, but I don't see what Intel has in 2006 that IBM can't match, or AMD, or whoever.

As nice and progressive as this sounds, the likelihood of a mass migration away from Word is highly unlikely. As an employee at a large tech company I see many daily reports in Powerpoint, Word and Excel. There are thousands upon thousands of these reports archived on network drives. How likely is it that a CEO/CFO/etc.. is going to mandate the transfer of all these documents to OpenOffice/Abiword/Etc.. ?
The permittivity of the oxide surrounding the conducting striplines must but be taken into account as well. For many oxides used on motherboards and in silicon this values ranges from 4-7. Take the square root of this value and divide your photon speed to get the max value on an oxide with a perfect conductor. This is rather limiting too.
I'm surprised to see approximately 41% of those surveyed have Hyperthreading enabled. From what I know there are not very many processors that support this feature. Also considering that Intel has about 50% of those surveyed this means there are only 9% of Intel CPUS survey without HT? A little unbelievable...
It's more like an Open-Application Beta. They did the same thing for Warcraft 3. Basically, during the time period they take in say 300,000 applications. They then choose say 30,000 for the first period of beta. Later on they will let more of the original 300,000 into the beta, after a couple months. They don't take more applications though...
During the Warcraft 3 beta I got in during the first period, one of my roommates got in a month later and then another of my roommates got in another month later.
Supposedly lagging sales is forcing them to attack their own customers. However, I agree stop buying the RIAA formula driven pop music.
But! Don't stop buying music, go out and buy a new indie artist and support music that's really innovative.
..does not mean decline in total music file sharing. People are moving to downloading complete ALBUMS via eDonkey/eMule. Users don't want to deal with many, many rips of the same song (many of which are faked) on KaZaA.
As a quick check visit top 100 lists such as Pitchfork top 50 of 2003, which contains sub-pop music flavors. Now search for the albums on edonkey networks with clients or FileDonkey. It's amazing to see so many RARs and ZIPs.
Less fakes, more helpful comments, better hashing, etc... at least for time being.
My research group got a nice Sun Blade 2000 with dual UltraSPARC III+ (basically UltraSPARC III with coppper interconnects).
I wrote a computational scientific program in Matlab for my research group. I then tested it out on the Sun Blade and my own P4 3.06 GHz w/ HT laptop. The Sun Blade computed at nearly 3X the speed of the Pentium 4. Now we are wondering why we didn't just buy a nice custom built PC for 1/3 the price...
I also realize Matlab runs poorly on Unix due to FP instruction sets not being available. Still I've tested Ansofts HFSS as well with similar results.
I'd like to see an equally 'fuzzy' Excel graph of the increase in BitTorrent and eDonkey/eMule statistics. I would venture to guess that the sums of the total would be equal to or greater than the usage of KaZaA before RIAA lawsuits.
I personally know that my friends are quickly moving to eMule due to the degradation of KaZaA's usability. They are having no difficulty in migrating to eMule's interface. Perhaps the RIAA should realize that attacking one source doesn't effect other sources, especially with today's computer literate college youth.
More importantly than just signing the petition: Contact your Senators and Representatives! Let it be known that people want verification on all voting systems. This is no joke. If your Representatives do no currently support or sponsor this bill there is no excuse. Call them, e-mail them, generally annoy the hell out of them.

Considering how charged the 2004 elections are likely to be (not to mention the extent to which foreigners will be watching to see if Bush is around another 4 years) I hope the Diebold memos will gain some national exposure. Otherwise if this matter is swept aside and ends up causing major discrepancies during the election we could be looking at some pretty serious consequences. I wouldn't even put civil war out of the picture....
I might be crazy, err I am crazy, but isn't that an antenna on the cobranded player? They really should have made it internal, but it's still really really cool. I've always hated having to plug in my mp3 plays to transfer music. Too bad it'll add $x to the cost of each player.
Yes an antenna, but not WIFI or Bluetooth, just an FM antenna for listening and recording FM radio.
The 49G has been available for over a year now. The link you provided is to the 49G+ an entirely new beast. I assume they didn't want to move to 50G, not quite as catchy.;)

This new calculator even uses a RISC ARM processor, so it should be fairly speedy. However, I don't know if these calculators have been made available for sale yet.

Yeah you are right. I forgot an important third area which is larger amounts of addressable memory, which certainly won't matter much on the desktop (at least for another year).
Yet I still stand by the other two points. You can't say that having a larger bus of 64-bits in comparison with 32-bits is not going to transfer data faster at equivalent clock speeds.
