  1. Re:are all the reviews by idiots? on Athlon 64 Debuts · · Score: 3, Informative
Um...NO. If its a true 64-bit processor, OS, and Application...you'll see FAR more than a 5-15% increase. You'll see an exponential increase. No, not just 100%...true 64 bit everything is more than twice as fast as true 32 bit.

    32 bit = 4294967296 possibilities.

    64 bit = 18446744073709551616 possibilities.

Your simplification of 64-bit processing is quite astounding. If your simple logic was indeed correct I'm sure Intel, Motorola, AMD, would be creating 128,256,512-bit systems by now and we would be living in a grand age of no disease, no war, and no death...

In fact the arguement for 64-bit processing is much more complicated. Simply put, 64-bit processing allows you to do two main things:

    1. Move more data in one clock cycle

    2. Perform more complicated instructions in one clock cycle

The first of which is widely accepted to be a good thing and the second is not so widely accepted (due to heretics like Hennessy...jk).

The current US-operated GPS system only allows this type of accuracy for military purposes. I feel it is a little irresponsible to give civilians (including criminals and terrorists) access to such accurate targeting systems. Maybe ESA wants to have a marketable advantage over GPS but it may go to far IMO.

I would like to point out a couple minor points being that USA/Israel is held accountable by a democratic government and international society. Which have produced such small advancements as Nuclear Test Bans (USA hasn't tested a nuclear weapon for over a decade) and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. A comparison to a dictator ruled country with little regard for the international community seems a little farfetched.

Firstly, one really can't have a meaningful discussion of the semi-conductor industry without understanding Moore/Moore's "Law".

Secondly, and I would have thought people would understand this by now, but Moore's "Law" does not cover CPU Speed!! It merely relates the density of transistors on silicon with respect to time. It does NOT attempt to take into factor various computer architecture advancements that could not have been predicted. However, it was Moore (and his slave EE minions at Intel) who made a VERY educated guess as to silicon process limitations and advancements.

This is another example of how the MPAA will not evolve/adjust to the new communications/internet world. Why are the paying in excess of $20 million for stars that are overpaid, overqualify media whores (i.e. Gigli stars)???

And don't tell me there are not perfect examples of this already working out there! What about Big Fat Greek Wedding, Bend It Like Beckham, and my personal favorite this year 28 Days Later. Made on a budjet of $8.7 million with previously unheard of actors AND with digital cameras! Not to mention actually paying a little extra for a good script from a good writer (Alex Garland).
