It should have tought the students in the first place. Research institutes don't lack "real technical depth" they lack "real world technical depth". I have spoken with a number of CS students and the skills that they actually use in the real world are ALL self taught. I called HP 2 weeks ago and they told me that the XP that was shipping with the AMD 64 was not the 64 bit OS rather the 32 bit OS. And I asked him what the point of buying the 64 bit CPU. He was a bit confused and told me that the 64 3000+ would run slightly faster than a 32 3000+ but it wouldn't be that much difference.

One thing to note is MS does have 64 bit OS's for the 64 bit Intel. But intel doesn't have a 64 bit cpu out yet. Go Figure.

What kind of asinine question is this? When it crashes you always blame the software. Could it be a powerspike that screwed around a few bytes in ram? Could it be bad hardware sure... but when it a glitch happens it is always blamed on the software.

Another reason software is more buggy than hardware is that hardware is an improvement on the next version not a whole new idea. How long has SCSI been around? How long has most end user software technologies been around?

And finally what are the limits of fault tolerance in software vs hardware. In physical engineering you are allowed a certain range of fault tolerance. In software it works 100% or it doesn't work at all. If there is a bug in the hardware that is discovered after production... it's up to the software to account and correct for it. THINK.
