Dude, you may want to step away from the keyboard and take a deep breath. This is not some uninvited guest helping themselves to your snacks. You allow them in via EULA. Perhaps taking a moment to breath will prevent a knee-jerk reaction.
Windows Update - malicious software removal tool. When you install Windows, or other Microsoft software, you agree to the End User License Agreement (EULA). There is nothing unusual about this. If the EULA is not agreeable, another OS should be installed.
Anyone who can access technical support resources can access customer data. The biggest issue is that most technical support is outsourced to other countries, which now have full technical (hardware+software version, etc.) and customer information (good for social engineering).
I like your rhetorical questions and strong opinion on the matter.
"Do you have a warning sign on your external electrical sockets at home (e.g. in the garden?)"
"Do you have a warning sign on your garden sprinklers?"
"Do you have a warning sign on the bulb in your porch?""
Beware of water faucets too. Why were the electrical outlets not secured. It is tempting to use. In most places where homeowners have swimming pools, they are required to have gate around pool and warning signs.
Lack of warning signs at electrical outlet (warning about prosecution - like shoplifter signs) and no physical security is asking for trouble. Good thing no one was hurt.
My employer has reacted to posts I made on Slashdot from home computer during non-work hours. The corporate police state is here and they hire other companies to track you 24x7. No joke.
The military uses off the shelf as it is cost effective. In the field, you need access to compressed air, or you run overpressure in your room to keep dust out. Pantyhose and a good fan are helpful.
I've been using a Dlink 601 for over a year. I have it in an UPS. Biggest issue is surge when you turn on microwave, A/C cycles on, etc.
If you can run ethernet, it really is not that hard.
Wireless should be only for guests.
Wireless is great for neighbors.
Executives and managers like to use double-speak in order to obfusticate messages. A good example is a company being more global-oriented. That mean "no local" and ultimately your job will be outsourced.
Actually, we need H1-B visa for management, upper management, etc. Once done we can then outsource that position to a country. If we paid a CEO 80K in US dollars for someone living in non-developed nation, we could save millions (maybe more) and make companies profitable.
In a world based on inequality, people in other parts of the world are worth less than other places. We have global proce for oil, etc. but not on labor. If the world needs inequality and we have laws to justify it (ethics and morals aside), we will have inequal pay. All humans should have an interest in this.
In the future, we will ultimately have 2 types of people: people who have robots, and people who don't.
Hey, if you ever have a chance to go to a FreeBSD con of some sort, you will see a lot of Mac hardware. Take a closer look and you see they are not running MacOS, but rather FreeBSD. Might want to roll up the window and get a good look at the world, and not just a snapshot.
Note: no vulgar language was used in this post.
You already have FreeBSD safe hardware. Linux is great, but FreeBSD would be easier for a Mac user. Personally, I would suggest Debian if you want Linux.
I noticed my work PC was starting to run real slow. I tried Google searches, but came up with nothing for the file. After search of exe on hard drive, I see on properties it is Mandiant with Symantec
signature: "C:\Program Files\Products\System Time\systimecmf.exe"
Any idea how to slow down this program to allow my PC to run faster?

Malicious software removal tool.
Highly unlikely, but we need Amazon and GoDaddy to police their customers.

If you already have known PINs, then it is easier to decrypt the lame 3des that was used.

What a great read. !!!

The higher level of brain activity could be an upload in progress.

If there is company property on your device, they have every right to it. Not as good as it seems.
Outsource upper management and CEOs. Cost savings would be awesome.

Hey, not sure if you are new to Slashdot or not, but that is via a moderator. If you get enough points, you can moderate.

This is the world we live in. We eat our own.
