So... how exactly is it that someone with "no prior experience" using slashdot has 2 previous posts? With one of them being fairly long and modded up quite a bit?
You people really need to get a fucking life. I don't care if you want to run your anti-slash site and poke your fun and point out the inconsistencies. In fact, I found some of them rather entertaining. But I really don't see how you can preach what you do while spamming the discussion boards all the same. This really just goes to show what kind of low life losers you really are, that you can't manage to get the word out about your site through normal, respectable channels, but have to resort to such childish tactics as this.
I have to say that I am impressed with the though prcoesses and programming that went into this. Makes me wish I was in grad school..
I did listen to some of the audio samples and, although they sound very good, it definately lacks some ofthe feel and expressivness of playing a guitar. One definately does get the impresssion that the strings are being plucked, i.e there is no "strum" mechanism, and when playing a song like Lola, really changes the feel. Of course, I would have much rather heard the instrument play the lead riff to "Layla" rather than just the background chords, but oh well..
Requiring school uniforms instead of rampant competition over name-brand clothing would help, also.
I think George Carlin said it best when he said, "School uniforms, bad idea... And its not a new idea. I first saw it old news reels from the 1930s, but it was hard to understand because the narration was in German."
I can understand the need to maintain some standard for clothing in school so that girls don't walk around with spaghetti straps and lots of bra showing, or kids with big "Fuck You"s on their shirts, but uniforms? Give me a break. You want to talk about mind numbing? Gee, now that's one less thing to have to worry about getting ready for school in the morning is what to wear. Because, you know, for these kids, its such an strain on the intellect to pick a shirt and pants from the miryad of clothing options. If you can't manage your time well enough to figure out how to get dressed in the morning and still make it to school, wearing a uniform isn't going to help. Who cares if kinds want to compete over name brand clothing. Do the hours spent shopping for the newest fasions really detract from their studies so much?
That's what tears me apart about this whole open source issue. Being a follower of Ayn Rand's philosophy, I can't seem to rationalize how devoting one's time and energy and not recieving any kind of monetary compensation is good. Yet, I wrote a paper for my Economics class last term advocating this very thing. I see it in action, am a staunch supporter of all things Linux, Apache, FreeBSD, etc. Yet, especially after reading this article, the whole things just seems to reek of socialism...
What is needed is a good, full-featured scripting language that the average sysadmin can master quickly. If I was paying to have my dream OS written, it would be Python, but Perl is good enough.
Have you read anything?? Jeez! It just doesn't ship with Perl any more. Nobody said anything about not being able to HAVE it in FreeBSD. You want Python? You want Perl? Install it afterwards! Hey: you can even have the luxury of installing it from source! Quite the novelty, eh?

It's great to see _someone_ out there celebrates Hanukkah.. at least I'm not the only Jew on/. Chag Sameach
One thing that I've been noticing about this holiday season is that its becoming less of a Christian holiday and more of an American holiday. We're all getting into the Holiday spirit to give gifts and, once and a while, actually be nice to a fellow human being or two. (I'm sorry, many New Yorker's pre-9/11 really sucked and can't drive. The latter is still true:) This has nothing to do with being Christian, more like people finding an excuse to get away from reality, and this happened to be the most sound and convenient one.
I don't know if this is a bad thing, I'm just saying what I see and feel. Comments appreciated.
I realize that, but I just wanted to pull the stuff that wasn't terribly important. Most people know what the first amemdment said. (Except for, perhaps, the starter of this thread.)
And just exactly when has MS had any concern about being a good citizen of the internet?

Fuck off.

Congress shall make no law...prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of...the press. Seems pretty clear cut to me..
