Give up TV for a week? Sounds like a great reason to finally buy a Tivo or build a MythTV box. Or buy a new computer game. Or not feel guilty about spending more time on the internet.
Well gee, I guess I could just run out and buy that bluetooth AP, bluetooth pcmcia card, and blue tooth bridge (well, 2 devices of course), to replace the wireless stuff I have in my apartment.
Except that.11 is cheap and easy to get/ impliment while bluetooth is almost nonexistant.
Ok. So, mozilla was supposed to addopt the phoenix/firebird/firefox code right? Did they do that already? If so, why are the developed separately? If so, what advantage does firefox offer, or is it just a fork of the code?
4 of 5 is GMD. Trust me on this, you are mistaken. Also, I believe the 1 failure was due to quality, not design. PAC3 is also KE only and just had a successful intercept at white sands like a week ago. PAC3 is deployed, was used in Iraqi Freedom, and is being marketed to Tiawan, Japan, and a ton of other countries.
Also, the only people who have advanced MIRV warheads are countries that have enough missiles it's irrelivant. (As to how good the discrimination is, I wouldn't know. And even if I did, it's all classified out the wazoo.)
First, PAC3 is in use. Your thinking of GMD. GMD has successful intercepts. It did not have an onboard beakon that was homed in on, it had simulated Cobra Dane input.
oh, theater wide missile defense was killed off. Navy has Aegis and might want other stuff, but for IDC they get Aegis. ABL, THAAD, and PAC3 (turning into MEADS) are the theater defenses panned I think.
Also, for Commanche, the problem wasn't that it wasn't working, it was that the whole point of building it had completely disappeared. The DoD sits down and sais, "what do we need" then builds something that fits it. They sat down and said, "you know what, we really don't need what we're building the commanche for any more."
First, DARPA is an agency of the USD&D (I'm pretty sure) Along w/ the MDA. Basically it's all darpa. Second, the DoD doesn't just buy stuff that works and do theoretical research. We wouldn't have fighters if thats how it worked. The DoD sais, "we need something that can do x" then they pay people to try to make something that van do x. Sometimes they find out it doesn't work and they cancel it. Thats the way it is. You can't just say, "all the stuff that might not work we'll let darpa pay for w/ a few hundred million dollars". You have to pay people w/ contracts in the billions some times to design something, not for the finished product. And even though all the technology might exist, in the end it might not play well together or it might be cost prohibative, or not safe or not able to comply with standards etc.
Just because the DoD sets out to aquire a major weapon system doesn't mean it will work perfectly. But if it's put into use it'll get it's job done.
Hubble has as much luster as a manned mars station. As we've seen, hubble can take pictures that make international news relatively regularly. Thats enough for a congressional subcommittee to send SETA (Scientific, Engineering, and Technical Assistance) people in to take a look at it.
I doubt that they ever planned or still plan to kill hubble. I think NASA saw Bush as bs'ing and they said, "fine. We'll say we're going to kill off the most successful mission we've run in the last 10 years to fund some mystic clowd of a mission." I think they fully expected someone to say, "hey, wait, maybe we should look at this from a technical standpoint instead of a political rallying standpoint."
Actually, in checks for spyware and virii, my grandmother did better than my father, my brother, and my uncle. Even so, I still got her a hardware firewall for christmas.

innocent, possibly and slightly are not 3 words I use to describe people who allow their computeres to become zombies for DDoS attacks. It's in appropriate to say the 3 words I would use in public.
Uh, whats the ERINT? (I work in the MDA and don't recognize the acronym but that's not really uncommon considering how many we have and how often they change.)

PAC3 (Patriot Advanced Capability 3) is designed as a hit-to-kill interceptor and I think was 9 for 9 in iraqi freedom. (PAC3 is the upgrade to the patriot.) It is the only depoloyed interceptor though ICBM defense is tentatively planned for October 1st.
It would be really useful for this person to expand this research. I'd like to see:
Same type of project done on a GUI
Research into the scope of usefulness of the CLI, (Obviously things like 3D animation and modeling require an advanced GUI, but where does the line blur between a needing a GUI and where does this line lay in respect to where brand new users who have not grown up with computers draw the line for what they want to use the computer for.
How did the people he had in his research progress w/o an experienced guide standing over their shoulder helping them.
What improvements could be made to a CLI to make it useful for the above mentioned user.
People have brought up good arguements for why a GUI is better than a CLI. Yet, in a wierd way I can understand what this person is saying. There are many basic things that I am more than willing to do with an xterm even though I could do them using a GUI. And as a power user, I can still related to some of the feelings of the people in his class. Looking at my desktop I see about 100 buttons, (97 to be exact. And not I didn't count the links and such in this page. And this is w/ 2 programs visible.), and I definately don't know what all of them do, nor will I click many of the ones I don't know because I don't know what they do.
Either way, this is definately interesting research that really needs to be covered in more depth.

Would a card like this, integrated with airsnort and appropriate drivers allow quicker characterization of the network traffic in an area?

- Completely convert computer: (Warning, this will erase the entire computer!)
The second one can be like mandrake where it will resize the windows partition and use that space.Install Alongside Windows

They don't fire autonimiously. I'm pretty sure they have a guy sitting at the radar. They lock autonimiously, but not fire.
don't give them ideas =p.

Patriot was good at what it was meant for, shooting down planes. PAC3 is good at what it's meant for, kenetic energy intercepts of ballistic missiles.
I believe it only had 1 plane, a british one. And by your reasoning we should pull all tanks which have been used to fire on a friendly.
PAC3 was 9 for 9 in iraqi freedom. Thats working. Not working is russia's icbm's not leaving their tubes while the president is watching.

Patriot works. And whats TW Missile Defense? (f you mean GMD, GMD works also.)
This is qualification. If you have no-one qualify, it's kinda pointless to hold the event. Mod parent down for trolling.

- a befsx41 hardware firewall
- avg antivirus set to autoupdate
- windows auto-update turned on
- google toolbar
- Spybot and adaware installed and instructions how to use them.
- A refresher every time I come over on how to run adaware and spybot, and a complete sweep by me.
Honestly, it's helped a lot. The computers aren't near as wridden as they used to be when I visit.I've only got the new DAU glossary =(. I knew I'd heard it somewhere. Someone who was working that long probably mentioned it.
