After researching dozens of websites, a dozen stores, and going back and forth between different models, I finally bought an LCD HDTV last month. I decided on the LVM-42W2 from Westinghouse. It has 1080p resolution, tons of inputs (including two DVIs and HDMI for hooking up your laptop) and works flawlessly. I couldn't be happier with the picture and it's by far the best price for a 40"+ 1080p screen.
My IT company uses Avalon Business Systems' Avalon Management Suite. It handles ticketing, asset tracking, and a whole lot more (client database, scheduling, accounting, vendor integration, etc.). It's all web-based and real-time. I'd highly recommend checking it out.
Are there any good clients besides Azureus that provide RSS functionality? It's nice to be able to automatically syndicate downloads. In fact, the RSSImport plug-in for Azureus is the only reason I still use that bloatware.
Really, the greatest thing we get out of it collaboration. There are a few solutions out there to bridge the virtual divide, but doing it with online software sure makes it easier.
Another aspect is that it runs even when your computer isn't. We have automated tasks (like reminder e-mails) go out at certain times of the day and it's nice not to have to maintain servers or backups ourselves.Mp>
Oh, one of the other nice things is that our clients and vendors can log into the system to view and place orders, download invoices, check inventory, etc. That's been a huge selling point to get in our customers' doors.
I've mentioned them before, but I'm still impressed by the Avalon Management Suite by Avalon Business Systems.
It's a web-based (AJAX?) management tool that my company uses to handle our scheduling, inventory, invoicing, CRM, etc. It's really slick, but useful (it reminds me a lot of GMail).
Really, web services like Avalon, GMail, and Flickr are coming along nicely. It's a lot nicer to be able to access your data and tools from anywhere than it would be to have to install software on a dozen computers.
Last year, I traded in my 14.1" Inspiron 8200 for a 17" Inspiron 9200. I've regretted it ever since. I'm big so it's so the weight is no big deal. Unfortunately, it's too awkward for lap-top typing. The keyboard sits in the middle of it and takes only about 80% of the horizontal space and 50% of the vertical space. So you have this hard, flat surface which your palms, wrist, and a portion of your arm are resting on just to get access to the keyboard.
In short, the keyboard is worst typing experience I've ever had. I'm sure some vendors place the keyboard better and make it more comfortable, but it's still going to be awkward with that much useless real estate.
My small IT office uses the Avalon Management Suite from Avalon Business Systems. It's a complete productivity suite which might be overkill for you, but it has the best group-based calendar I've ever seen.
You can set up permissions so that you can create your own appointments, create others, or suggest others which are put into a "pending" approval queue. It's all web-based and sexy as hell.
I'm not sure how much it costs, but you can probably get just the features you want. I can vouch that pretty much every aspect of it is great.
My growing consulting business considered Oracle, Siebel, and other CRM suites but decided to go with Avalon Management Suite from Avalon Business Systems. It handles all of our contacts, invoicing, inventory, and more.
It way exceeded our expectations. It's a nicer web-based solution without all the bloat. Oh, and it cost us a fraction of what the other products would have.

Pretty good speed, reliable lately (although about a year ago, there would be frequent downtime). Pricier than some, but the best option available here.

How the hells is this news for nerds or stuff that matters?

I read the news to make my decisions, not to have them made for me.

Secondly, what do you propose to replace common ActiveX tools that require OS interaction (like Windows Update or TrendMicro's online virus scanner)?

Thank you. That is possibly the funniest post I have ever read. :)

No, I would guess that what's currently linked to smells a lot like ass.
If that's true, I'll be able to export my PIN number to the PDF document format and store it on my RAID array...

University of Illinois is "not so good" when it comes to traditional fields?
