In the first DARPA Grand Challenge, held on a desert route from California to Nevada, 15 teams from a field of 106 applicants progressed to the final event

Why increase the prize to $2M? If the goal of the challenge is to develop an autonomous vehicle, why not use the extra $1M as a grant to fund the top 15 teams from the last challenge.

I think it's a mistake to make a blanket statement that a RAID array overkill for a small business. My company is similar in size (18 employees) and a RAID is absolutely essential for us from a downtime perspective. We simply can't afford to be down becuase a drive crashed.

Sure, backups are essential for the lost/deleted file, but a RAID (or at least a mirrored drive) keeps your server up and running. Not everyone needs that type of reliability, but if you figure the cost of recovering from a failed hard drive (even in a small company), the additional cost of a RAID upfront is well worth the investment.

Just a guess (since I don't have the Linksys device in question) but most of these are powered by a 9/12/whatever volt wallwart.
It should be a simple matter to convert the 12V from the battery to whatever voltage is needed by the router with either a 3 terminal voltage regulator or even a zener diode.
Or a DC-DC converter if you need more efficiency or higher than 12 volts.

You create throwaway addresses on the fly (just make them up - no logging in) and email gets forwarded to your real address. Works great for addresses you only expect to receive a few emails from (like when registering for NYT, etc), as the address automatically expires once you receive a certain number of emails. If you want to continually receive email at that address, you can specify an exclusive sender (by email address or domain) to allow email to come in indefinitely.

Works great and is free too.

If you ignore the taxes on fuel, the prices are not that different, and in fact Americans pay more for the "fuel" portion.

    From this article

The reason for the higher prices in Europe is predictable: taxes. When currency and measurements are converted, the $5.38 that Britons were paying for gas last week included $4.16 in taxes. Rates are similar across Europe.

In the United States, each gallon is taxed 18.4 cents by the federal government, and with state taxes added on, Americans pay an average of 27 cents extra.

Just because our total price is lower doesn't mean we have no right to complain. In fact, one might wonder why Europeans tolerate such outrageous taxes on gasoline.
