My projectors doesn't do vertical keystone correction even in software. I don't thnik it is a big deal if I could use a wall far enough, but my living room is just about 4m across. With the depolarization at screen problem other poster mentioned, I don't think this idea will work.
I have two identical DLP projectors. AFAIK DLP projectors do not polarize the light one way, so I should be able to make 3d projection using a simple polarizer in front of the lenses of the projectors, anda pair of glasses made of same polarizer (one polarizer rotated 90degrees wrt to the other in both cases.) The idea of 15 foot Doom 3 monsters in my living room gives me the creeps! Would that work?
I know this is slightly offtopic and will probably be modded down along with replies so AC replies are welcome.
He thinks that the hypergeometry of brain is the most important parameter of cognition: it has to be the dimension which gives maximum surface area of a sphere, which is 7 (rounded to closest integer.) His further theory is fractal dimensions of brain can be understood by counting certain brain layers and that also defines the properties of hypergeometry.
There you have it, now the post probably makes as much sense as it can ever make.
AFAIK we have not sampled nuclear neanderthal DNA yet, therefore completely unable to tell whether any of our DNA came from them.
OTOH neanderthal mithocondrial DNA is sampled and found to be singificantly different from Homo Sapiens'. That means we have no neanderthal grandmothers, which makes interbreeding theory *very* unlikely.
A remote possibility is neandethal females were unable to carry half-HS offspring but HS females could. That is unlikely for at least three reasons:
a) The distance between m-DNAs suggest the difference between n-DNA too great to interbreed
b) There is no mechanism we know of that would make neandarthal mothers unable to carry half-breeds while HS mothers can.
c) And finally, I made the theory on the spot and I'm not even a biologist
The Z80 has decodes and executes in single stage and instructions take slightly higher 2 cycles to complete on average. By your logic Z80 must have 30 times the IPC of P4. Therefore P4 must have about 0.01 IPC. Illuminating although completly untrue.
I would buy a PS3 if cell processor is half as good as advertised and I can write programs for it without paying for a SDK. It was unclear whether modding it and attaching a real HD, loaded with a OS & programming tools would be possible. Now I don't need to do that. If the PS3 and HD doesn't cost too much and if there won't be a cheaper cell based computer, they have a new customer.
Windows ME is not a successful failure, it is an ordinary failure of the unsuccessful kind. What do you expect the register to report, "ME was an ordinary failure, and it made no difference whatsoever"?
Though this hardly challaneges the conclusion, Johan admitted his words about G5 rolling its muscles with Altivec comment was a mistake. gcc 3.3.x does not produce vectorized altivec code. G5 won the single fp test it did using its FPU, not vector unit. We still don't know how SSE compares with altivec since gcc 3.3.x doesn't produce vectorized code for x86 either.
He also said they couldn't install linux on the first sample they received due to hardware problems and second sample came a bit too late, which is why he didn't have time to do a linux on PPC vs x86 test.
Either way, he was still the most evil human to grace the face of the earth. And that inst a biased or sterotypical view.
I don't want to sound like a Nazi apologist but I don't think that is really an unbiased, objective assessment. I'd say every single serial killer that kill people because they enjoy it is more evil than him. Many radical racists and fundementalist religous people would do at least as bad as he did given half a chance too. He was a successful psycopath, that is why he managed to kill as many as he did, not because he was the most evil one.
Don't get me wrong, I do agree he was an evil man. I just think I read about (and even met) worse people, thankfully none run a country as powerful as Germany.
Well, you have to keep in mind in WWI Hitler was temporarily blinded by a British chlorine bomb, and spent the final days of the war in a hospital bed.
I'm not a historian but that is probably why he had a big stockpile of chemical weapons. Developing and producing tons of chemicals doesn't make any sense unless you believe they are powerful weapons. Really, they are not but Hitler thought they were. His first hand account of british gas might be why he was convinced otherwise.
Maybe he was afraid chemical weapons could actually hurt him.
You mean personally hurt him? I don't think so. OTOH I don't think that experince made him develop an irrational fear of chemicals. He certainly wasn't exposed enough to be victim of a chemical weapon during WW2.
Maybe he felt that he couldn't actually win a chemical battle and kept the chemicals just in case they were used against the Germans
That is quite close to my argument. Germans did have an upper hand with chemicals but German intelligence didn't know they had vastly superior chemical weapons and more of them. So they assumed Allies had similar capabilities. Hitler reasoned using them will only lead to chemicals entering scene, perhaps killing more Germans than Allies. If he was a real maniac not concerned with death toll, he would have used them, especially against civilan targets (read: London.) It is quite possible that had Germans built an atomic bomb, German intelligence wouldn't be able to prove Allies had none and Hitler would treat them just like he treated chemical weapons.
If they had the bomb early enough to change course of war on Eastern front, sure. After that, an atomic bomb wouldn't be of any use, they would have lost the war just the same.
Besides Hitler probably wouldn't have used an a-bomb anyway. Germany had best chemical weapons developed but used none during WW2. Hitler thought Allied forces had chemicals too and feared a chemical retaliation. He also thought they are not powerful enough to change course of war. If he had an A-bomb too late in the game or he was not convinced it could turn the tide, it is not unreasonable to assume he would have decided against using it, following same logic.
He had sick ideas about racial purity, jews and value of human lives, he also made many misjudgements in Germany's strategy but he is not the idiot maniac so many Americans like to think he is. He actually cared for a rather large subset of Germans and avoided risking their lives unnecessarily.
While OS X has not been out all that long relativley speaking, it has undergone changes the equal of movng between 95->98->2000->XP
Windows 9x series and NT series are different OSes. The kernel, filesystem, security and multi-user concepts, administration, drivers have nothing in common. The API is roughly the same although its implementations share little code. It is a remarkable achivement of MS to make transition so smooth that you dare to compare difference between minor versions of OSX (which have just userland changes and a few minor enhancements to the same kernel) to difference between 9x series to NT series.
someone's uber-secure password might be hashed right onto a dictionary word if the coder is a clown.
And how does not being a clown prevent that? The number of exactly 7 letter combinations without case sensitivity is more than that can be uniquely enumerated in a 32 bit number. Consider all non-letters and case sensitivity, it is impossible to prevent zillions of uber-secure looking passwords' hash collide with the hash of "password"
In Turkey could-have-been-competitiors think that Eurovision song are so crappy that nobody worthy of their name should risk losing *that* competition.
I wouldn't call CUPS intuitive, especially if you need to modify a ppd file. However you connect to localhost:631 only if you want to configure a local CUPS install using a web browser. If you don't want that, you don't have to do that (regardless of the user logged in.)
OTOH if you have to configure CUPS remotely that service on port 631 is very handy and connecting a remote host by means of a web browser is actually quite intuitive.
Your comment made me install and try a recent version of Gimp. It seems OK, Since I haven't invested time into learning it and don't plan to do so, I'll take your word for it.
You must be kidding. Firefox is nice but both openoffice and gimp suck. I use openoffice only because I don't need an office suite most of the time and can put up with a slow under-featured memory hog when I need one. OO.org 1.x line is not an option for serious users.
Gimp... You can't possibly use Gimp and its alternatives, then say with a straight face it is better than its commercial alternatives. It sucks even for non-serious use.
6. Digital phones can be dialed by whistling into them. It isn't easy but you can do it if you practice long enough (and are bored enough).
Considering how DTFM tones are combination of three pure tones of unrelated frequencies, I don't buy that. We used to handshake with modems by whistling (who will connect with higher speed stuff), and that was hard enough. And modem handshakes (at least in the sub 28.8 range) use only pure tones.
The reporter's claim went far beyond that. If he were to be believed, we could all drive around for free the rest of our lives as long as we kept our speed under a certain threshold.
That is probably the most useful and life saving lie a reporter ever told. Please mod parent down!
I have better than 50% chance of living forever! Thanks for the link!
I was thinking about salvaging the polarizer of a dead LCD. I guess I'll have to think of a cooling solution.

Why don't you read ananad article you linked yourself? Pay close attention to pages 4 and 5.
Thanks man, you just made my TV rips a lot more watchable.
Most MS software used to accept keys of the form 12345678901234... including various windows versions.

So you run internet explorer to add a printer. And I thought adding a printer to OS/2 was unintuitive...
