In this case, I'm making a non-witty observation on something that has already been commented to death on in a feeble attempt at humor. Although on reflection, We'll just say that I was mistaken.
I seem to have misconstrued myself a bit in my post. I am not advocating any one official channel for the open source community. I am stating that any time you have a disorganized (for lack of a better term) command structure, you are going to have incidents like this. We, as the open source community can understand these outbursts. We are all trying to make a better product, a better community, a better life. Sometimes one of us will get out of line. Hell, I've shot off my mouth so many times I'm suprised that nobody has shivved me yet. This is tolerable within the community. It is when it leaks out into the corporate world that it becomes a problem. Because we have no real structure to to follow, it is easy for someone to be labelled the spokesperson for us all, and the corporate world will take notice. Open Source is a faceless beast, and when one person steps up to be counted, he can become labelled as the leader.
I do not want a CEO of OSS. I think that everything has been kept in balance within the community. The righeous indignation has been kept in check by the level-headed opposition, and we have essentially elected our own board in the recognizable names which essentially head development, awareness and policing of our community. We just have to be careful because 'they' do not understand 'us'. They want a similar command structure to what they have. They want names, leaders, faces to bargain and deal with.
And for the record, Alan Cox has consistantly acted in my best interests, with what I believe is reason and good judgement. He has acted in the manner that I believe I should. Even though he has his flaws, they are far outstripped by his actions. That is the mark of a good leader. That is why I mentioned him (That and he does have a kick-ass beard) Should it come down to a fight, I know where my allegiances lie.
1995? I think that that is a more interesting topic.

Karamba: The desktop is no longer where you just store your stuff!
And Active Desktop was a horrible waste of cpu cycles. Why even bother asking us if we wanted to restore active desktop everytime it crashed? Just do it!
Just like any recession, some industries tend to be insulated from the economic woes that surround them. Anything that will allow people to escape reality feels less impact, and in some cases, has positive growth. Alcohol is a prime example of an industry which operates in direct contradiction to recessions, and if you're too young to drink, games can be a replacement.
kprinter will take printing input the same way lpr will, then you have a very windows-esque dialog to select printers, options, etc. You can set up new printers in the control center, and, assuming you have the proper drivers (I always use PS-compatible printers) they just work. Even with network printers.
It's not just you. I think that KDE really missed the boat on that one. They spent a lot of time designing UI guidelines, unified printing, and polishing the GUI gleaming that they missed the most basic part, sane 'Start Menu' layout.
My Post anonymously box has dissappeared. I checked the faq, and all I found was this:
Most of the trolls and useless stuff comes from "Anonymous Coward" posters. Have you thought about eliminating anonymous posting? We've thought about it. We think the ability to post anonymously is important. Sometimes people have important information they want to post, but are afraid to do it if they can be linked to it. Anonymous Coward posting will continue to exist for the foreseeable future.
What's the graphics card in the machine? If it's an ATI rage128, manually eddit your xfree86 and disable dri. This is the most common problem I run into with unix. the Rage 128 was used in everything you could hook a monitor to, and it hates DRI.
Floppies? Man that shows age. All my media is very rigid, and bigger than 3.5 inches.
Or, wear an infra-red diode on the top of your hat. That really screws with cameras.
Step 3) Wait for the rest of the world to turn lead into gold, thereby creating amazing demand for your stockpile.
You could do the same with chickens, but it's get messy.

Personally, I think that Darth Vader's Imperial March was more ominous and evil than the Thuggee Ceremony.
/. culture than the million deaths of Stephen King.
Should John Williams ever pass away, he would leave a much larger impact on
That's part of the GNU/Linux changelog!
Your Honour, I rest my case.
Actually, I'd rather have Alan Cox rather than Richard Stallman representing me anyday.
He doesn't seem to be as blinded by ideals as RMS is. Plus Alan's got a better beard.
That is the problem with Open Source Software. There's no command structure, no CEO, no shareholders, nobody to 'officially' speak for us.
So the message can get muddled.
I'd like to see them attempt to cover Paris with WiFi alone. That would be a feat! No fiber backbones, just wireless nodes.
It was a stupid comment regarding his confusing use of the term "from 1995".
And yes, I am a dumbass.

So what you're saying is I should balance my retirement fund between the automitive sector and snack-food sector. I'll call my broker now!

Watch out Pharmaceutical Companies!

Of course We could always go do it ourselves...
I thought that robotics apps usually picked RT Linux for their core? Does RT linux still offer additional benefits to robotics?

I'm not sure I'd use Squid for caching. Although it's a great cache, it requires that users take action on their end in order to use it.
Squid can be set up to a transparent proxy.
One reason: No markup on equipment. You pick the Dslam, you sell the equipment. Aside from that, nothing much, really.
Dad, is that you?

BTW, what happened to the "Post Anonymously" box?
That sounds like ATI's Problem.
Open up the drivers!
