  1. One question... on A Quick Look At Mac-On-Linux · · Score: 1
My question is. Would it be possable to run the Mac apps directly in the linux/KDE environment?

I.E. Having the Mac style windows floating around with the others, without having to be inside the Mac-on-Linux / Mac OS window?
That would be pretty neat. And you could also make a KDE theme that funtioned like Mac OS.

OS X has alot of potential. But it seems it will just remain exatly that. Potential to be an excelent OS, and not reality.

It's seems to me that Apple has sold-out, and decided to go with a 'cool' OS, to draw in the $$ as opposed to making a decent OS.

I have to say. It does look cool. But I can't really imagine working with it. The whole reson I wanted an Apple was for the nice, slick, mostly bug free interface.

    • White BG with grey lines that make it hard to tell a B from a 8
    • Aliased fonts and small sizes
    • Big, candy-like buttons, that take up screen space
    • no text on the docker without rolling over a icon
    • GUI controlls that rely on color, or position when using the graphite theme
    • taking away customization from the start menu
These are just a few things, that apple need fix up, and at least include as a standard option.

Do any of those icons have text, that you can see without having to hover over the icon?
I know that this is a broblem with the docker, but not sure if it affects it's submenus.

Macromedia carry part of the blame for annoying adds.

When you make a Flash file, you get the option to remove the options like 'play' 'loop' from the users right-click menu. Leaving the user no way to stop the animation.

They shouldn't do this. They should always have those options there, as well as a option to fully stop the animation (ticking off 'play' doesn't stop the animation completely), and a mute option.

All the major browsers have a way to stop animated gifs, Macromedia must do the same for flash. They are partly to blame for making adds annoying.

I suggest that people go to their site, and complain about these things, 'cause that's the only way they will change it. They already know that botching up the users interface is a bad thing.

And please tell me exactly how torturing terrorists well actually prevent more attacks, or make 5000 people come back to life? There is absolutely no reason for torture except for your own selfish, personal revenge. It's sick and disgusting. Grow up.

I think you miss-understood what I meant about building 3 towers. I mean it metaphorically. If they try to damage you, make yourself bigger and stronger. How are you supposed to fight something that gets stronger each time you try to destroy it?

The whole reason that they are attacking the US is because of the US foerin policy thing. Fix that problem, and help their people live by giving them basic things like water and irrigation systems, and help rebuild their buildings, and they don't have a reason to attack America anymore.
Sure, they do have cultural differences that will remain, like how woman are second class.
But if you think that is a good reason not to help a country in need. Then you are a fucken hypocrite. Because all countries and people have their flaws, just look at the prejudgeses in your own country.

The terrorists have already won this 'battle', 5000 dead, buildings destroyed, not to mention the 1000's of run-offs that it has caused, like the airline industry dumping over 50,000 workers etc. Blowing up the people who did this isn't going win the 'war', because as far as they are concerned, they have already won it.

The only thing that is going to come out of this 'war against terrorism' is more terrorist attacks, and more retaliations.
Maybe if the US gov put it's guns away, and treated this like a crime, and spent heaps on intelligence, and got them one by one, and slowly rain their operations into the ground, they would 'win the war on terrorism'. It's like trying to get rid of cockroaches, you aren't going to get rid of them by blowing up the house they are in, you have to be planned and patient about it.

Anyway, you would not be solving anything, or teaching them a lesson as far as they see it.

They only way to teach them a lesson it to build 3 towers, and make them taller. Then give aid to all the arab countries that need it. That's something they can't fight.
And even if people still wanted to take down the US, there would be far less support from people in their own countries, like Afganistan.

There would be far less people hating the US if the US was giving them aid, and not mucking about with millitary in there country.. which is why these attacks happened in the first place.

It seems that Handera is the only Palm OS PDA company that is doing anything.

Unless these companys get off their butts and start making something worth paying for. I think my next PDA will be a PPC....if they can get the form factor down a bit.

Here's a few things that I expect to see on the next Palm device:

    • 2x the screen res, and go with a soft graffiti area like Handera. So the res would be something like 320x460. Not sure if it's possable to fit a color screen like that, and keep the same form factor of a Palm V/M505, but it should be possable in greyscale.
    • Dump graffiti and inclued something like TealScript, which will let users make there own profiles, instead of learing someone elses.
    • Inclued a scroll wheel, and 2 buttons on the side of all devices, and make them usefull in the OS.
    • And some much needed features to Palm OS, like the ability to list people in the contact by there first name, not just last name and company (WTF?). The ability to transfer PIM info to differnt program like in WinCE (like copying a note, to the calander, or adding an alarm to a note etc). That's only naming a 2 of 100's improvments that could be made to the Palm OS, while still keeping it simple to use.
And I didn't even mention any of the multimedia capabilities that the PPC have that Palm don't (I wanted to keep that part out of it, since there are lots of people that don't need or want multimedia capabilities on their PDA).

Not just because you interact with the computer using 2D, but 99% of the time, the media you will be reciving is 2D. E.G. text images, video, and music well, music dosn't realy fit, but you know what I mean).

So from end user, to the data, it usaly goes like this:

    3D (real world) > 2D (computer) > 2D (the data).

A 3d browser seems to do this:

    3D > 2D > 3D > 2D

SO at the moment, there isn't much point. It's kinda like an extra convertion one has to go though to get the info.
If the data at the end was 3D, then probably, a 3D browser could offer advantages.
Not matter how hard I try. I just can think of a 2D > 3D system or concept as an interface for 2D data that would be better than a 2D interface.
Any advantage to a 3D interface is lost cause the first interface (the computer) is 2D.
