  1. It already is illegal on Text-Messaging Behind the Wheel · · Score: 1

In most places they have laws against not paying attention while drive. Negligence behind the wheel is not a charge you want.

Either way, if you kill someone because you you where typing that Bobby was DUI after he was AAK and you professed that you DUNA but then you saw someone and said DURS and tried to give her DWPKOTL all while driving 120km/hr you will most likely be charged.

No need for new laws just charge people with the existing ones. Then someone will text you WTFGDA.

Really, anyone who "Downloaded" the beta will have an internet connection. You can disconnect if you still use dialup or satellite after it validates you. So a few kb of data. It lets you install to as many computers as you want too.

Look at how many people use steam. It does a lot more than validate an account and people love it. It is also better than an activation based system where you get X installs and that is it. Again, this lets you play it anywhere.

  3. MDAC? on F/OSS Flat-File Database? · · Score: 1

You can use mdac to create an excel sheet and both update and query it. It is running under Vista and you can do this in c# which is free like you don't have to pay for it if you own Vista. It can be done from pretty much an script host too. MS has examples, but it is pretty much just an ADO connection.

You see it all goes back to Trudeau and that darn Charter of Rights and Freedom's. It keeps stomping laws like this. And the great thing about the charter is that it really really hard to change.

So, step one, find clauses in new law that are contrary to the charter.
    Step two, bye-bye new law.

Or better yet, it is a minority Government. Try getting one of the other party's to agree.

  6. Canadian Price on Christmas Shopping For Your Nephew · · Score: 1

So, last time I looked the American dollar was number 4 on the list next to Canada, Euro, and Pound at number 1. So I guess they won't be selling any up here at a 50% penalty for shipping an extra 100km. Right now 1 Canadian dollar is worth 1.026 american.

I guess companies still like to think that the US dollar is worth twice as much.

However, if you are not against patents in general, why are software patents any different from mechanical ones.

Now, the process that have been granting stupid patents (One click anyone) is broken. But how is One click even in the same league as say RSA was way back.
