    The bridge has a lowered crash beam that protects it from harm, so the railway company doesn't want to spend the money; something tells me the city also doesn't want to.
    Since the city added an LED sign with an automatic red light wait it has cut down on the entertaining videos.

    Last time I tried it out; it wasn't a script, it was a full blown program with a GUI and everything (first run took ages to create the HOSTS file).

    I'm pretty sure CPY only does cracks. I own both those games, so I couldn't say for sure though.
    The torrent comments on TPB seem to suggest cracked.

    In Toronto and Calgary, and I imagine other cities in Canada; you can legally do that work on your own house. You can't do it as a contractor on a house you don't live in.
    I worked for a guy that renovated his own house (stripped it down to the walls, left just enough to keep it as a reno instead of a new house) in the evenings and weekends. Other than needing a structural engineer for blueprints, he did it all himself.

This could possibly refer to the March 26, 1997 incident in San Diego, California, where 39 Heaven's Gate cultists committed mass suicide at their compound. It is a plausible explanation, since one of them was the brother of Nichelle Nichols (a Star Trek actress), so the event got a big resonance in nerd circles (and Randall often refers to Star Trek in xkcd). However, given Black Hat's strange behavior, it could be anything, even Bill Clinton banning federal funding for human cloning research.
