    Eight cable companies, but only one in your area.

    For example, I'm stuck with Comcast. There may be 7 other cable companies, but I do not have a choice.

    I'm not spending ~ 85$ a month to get a DSL simply because I don't have a landline. (Well, that would only be a possiblity if DSL was available in my area....)

    Well, I use sprintpcs with Kyorcea (sp?) phone.

    SprintPCS provides me a (mynumber)@messaging.sprintpcs.com email address, to which all emails get sent to the phone as a text message.

    No spam yet (had it for 6 months). I pay 10$/month, I think, for 400 messages? (not sure, would have to check.)

    Uh, well, an MMC to SD card adapter might work there...

    Myself, I use the Toshiba "Pocket PC" e310; very thin, with only an SD slot. :-) (Which is usually connected via my convertor to a 512 mb CF card.)

    (Where 4 is the average number of megabytes of an Mp3..)

    Oh, and by the way.. IT DOES NOT COST COMCAST MORE MONEY IF I USE MY FULL CAPPED (150k/downstream) BANDWIDTH.

    If it really did, they would have accepted my offer to pay more an uncapped connection...

    Yippee, now it'll be even more illegal for me to download new Britney Spears songs, as I'll have to steal bandwidth to do it! Yay! (I have comcast "high speed internet access" .. capped at 150k/down 5k/up.. Not to mention getting beaten, raped, and tortured by the "Customer Service" department..) No way I'm going to pay extra for my "30%" of the download bandwidth..

    Actually, you *can* allocate space for a file without actually writing to the file, assuming you know enough about the underlying kernel and the actual filesystem itself. Assuming, also, that you have low level access to the hardware (which IMHO isn't likely in this case).

    The point, I suppose, is that it *can* be done, if you know what you're doing.
