I don't think it's about keeping jobs for anglos, I think it's more about benefiting the country that made the damned company possible.:)
I mean: people seem blind to the fact that by moving jobs overseas, yes, they're lowering their bottom line, but they're ALSO PUTTING PEOPLE OUT OF WORK. People that will no longer have money to spend on thier products. this repeats often enough, and it doesn't matter how damn cheap thier product(s) are, no one has the money to buy them.
the parent post is claiming that somehow indian programmers are more technically apt then other races; that is NOT the case. i'm sure there are some indian programmers that are better than british or american programmers, however, inversely, there are some british/american programmers that are better than thier indian counter parts - the real root of the problem is that british/american programmers are not legally allowed to work for the wages indian programmers earn - there are minimum wage laws in our countries.
This is getting extremely annoying - I'm still getting hits daily from Code Red & Nimda. I'd like to personally line up each person who hasn't patched thier system and slap them.
Along with the idiots at microsoft who don't make updates for IIS available though windowsupdate. (in my experience, ymmv.) C'mon, it's shipped with the OS, you've got automatic updates on by default, so make them patch the goddamn webserver.
The problem I see is that we, as "slugs" - people without hundreds of millions of dollars to pursue our own litigation - we have no recourse to their actions.
I guess what I'm trying to say: We shouldn't tell lies, no. We also should _not_ attempt to take the high moral ground against a company that has proven time and time again that it simply hasn't heard of the term "moral behavior." We should destroy them at any cost.
Not GPL patent issue, and not because Windows has better alternatives.
(If I were in a worse mood, I'll call your post a troll.)
It's simply because: *gasp* no one cares. Those who want to run Linux do. Those who are forced to use windows (e.g. at work, like me) install cygwin [http://www.cygwin.com/] along with other tools.:)
GAH!
Carl Sagan did/not/ say "billions and billions." What scientific mind would say that? I'd suggest reading his book, entitled "Billions and billions," which points out this "mediaism."
(Not to mention it's pretty damn good.)

Not Microsoft's fault.
hahahahahahahahahahahaha.
good one.
Check the image out, it's hilarious.
/. to make this the new SCO logo...
We need to get
Online complaint form for the SEC:
http://www.sec.gov/complaint/selectconduct.shtml
You'll have to check your particular state for information on how to contact your attorney general; for PA, it's: http://www.attorneygeneral.gov/ (and the contact form is http://www.attorneygeneral.gov/contact/Index.cfm)
What kinda nut modded it off-topic?
He's a Linux user, and displaying on his website that he's not afraid of SCO - we need this unity.
I don't think it's about keeping jobs for anglos, I think it's more about benefiting the country that made the damned company possible. :)

But greed is the key, right?
Thanks mother america, now I understand.
then why not make SCO remove you? i mean, do you want your company/name associated with SCO?
important points? what are you smoking?

hmm, i hadn't thought of that possibility.
:)
otoh, it certainly explains the number of systems that attack me with it, yet seem invulnerable to it themselves.
i ended up writing a little script to browse my apache logs and, using nimda, place a note on the users desktop.
perhaps i'll have to modify it to email the netblock owner of the script kiddies attempts coming from thier IP?
FWIW, here's the email i sent them:

Why not drop 'em all a line and let 'em know you're not happy w/ thier status as "partners" of SCO?

It's hard to compete with indian programmers who make 2$/day.
It's not a matter of technical competition; that's on an individual basis.
It's a matter of us not being able to live on 2$/day.

First: I agree with your position.

You value the life of a chicken greater than that of a human (scientist)?
(ps.. since when are sentient beings not a renewable resource? i know where i'm at, but this is called "breeding.")
But this is a local-root exploit. WebDav thing/nimda/code red/etc were all windows exploits that allowed remote-root..
Big difference there; I'm not even going to patch my machines, because I'm the only user.

More events like this nonsense may show us the need of destruction of these inane laws and corporations through any means nessecary.
Yes, I am a US citizen. Yes, we're losing our Miranda rights.
Yes, I am willing to die to win back our freedom; many before our generation have died (civil war, war w/ Britan, ... on and on) to win thier freedoms.

What in the fuck does "sleekier" mean? :)
Obilgatory "I'm gonna get modded down," comment so I get modded up.
To say nothing of the fact that warez is also illegal.
Did it need one?
This is what we like to call "sarcasm."
I posted the same story... Kind of makes you wonder if Ashcroft has taken over slashdot.... heh.
