What is there to find? If there was a bug in some of the software on the car computers how would they find it since it's probably in every other Renault?
"This car is exactly like all the other ones - no anomolies, nothing broken - it's fine."
Chances are the computer would have auto reset like most do and any chance of software evidence being left is gone.
It's not only for the outdoors. The site explains it's also designed for indoor attractions. It's targetted for the tourism industry.
For example: You go to Yosemite National Park in the USA and you can borrow one of these when you enter and it has all sorts of information on the park and landmarks placed on the map for you to go see (including washrooms an d gift shops!)
Or you go to a large museum and you borrow one to get a map of all the attractions and maybe some accompanying text/voice info on whatever exhibit you're nearest to.
Oh and back to my point: The wireless would be to remain on the network at an indoor location or possibly in some outdoor areas.
I worked for a number of years at a college and I can tell you why the computers are always better than anything the student needs.
1) warranties only go for so long 2) It's often cheaper to get all the latest and greatest then it is to make a special case for you and put in a slower hard drive, a crappy video card, and change the sound card.
A college I used to go had a great IT department that built it's own computers and reused alot of components. I tried to push this where I worked a number of times but no one was for it. Oh well.
Video is something that is easily noticeable by an end user. The graphics look better on a monitor. Audio is different, you have to have a good sound system and if you want surround sound you have to have a room suitable for the 6 speaker setup.
Most people don't have surround sound at their computers and never will, I would if I was able to physically have the speakers surrounding me. I can't. Alternatively the only other speakers I can get are 2 satellites plus a sub. No ones offers a 3.1 dolby pro logic setup for computers. We have to make baby steps to surround sound - let's get that centre channel speaker in there.
The only time surround sound will ever become as big of a focus as graphics for developers is when someone can buy a single canister speaker that does surround sound in the entire room.
I beg to differ. When I first got my PowerBook it only had 256MB of RAM and it was quite slow, I bumped it up to 768 and it was like running a completely different computer - incredibly faster. Mac OS X NEEDS alot of RAM and I don't know why Apple won't admit it. RAM is cheap, give it to us!
Since the OS booted to play DVDs and MP3s should be very light weight and minimal, will power consumption be noticably lower in this mode compared to watching DVDs in windows? I believe the media is decoded with hardware too, further optimizing the power usage. This would be great for watching movies on a plane, with wi-fi off of course!
People who use wifi on their hand helds use it mostly for email, data access and for the occasional google. No one sits down at their desk and surfs the net on their hand held.
What the poster failed to mention was that the patent also included that it was customizable via a software program. You could open the "case prefs" and sets your case to have stripes, polka dots, etc. I am sure it could probably be animated too.
Yes, but are they using it as a single sign on service? I am sure there are millions of people register to Nytimes.com but if they launched a single sign on service and its existing accounts were automaticly eligible and they claimed success because they had millions registered, I'd be laughing.
I have a MSN Passport. But I use it just for MSN Messenger. So I am not using it for it's single sign on potential.
That would be because there are no entry level programming jobs to be had. What few experience programmers there are get all the jobs and the masses of young inexperienced programmers can't find any entry level jobs so they go and work at a help desk.
Huh? Are you just disagreeing with him just for the sake of going against Gates? DVDs as we know it will be obsolete in 10 years from now. Why wouldn't they be? Alot can happen in 10 years. Look at how fast we got exceeded CDs in computing.
2 years ago I slipped in Mozilla onto the image for all the laptops at a large college. So all the staff and teachers had a mozilla icon on their desktop but I don't know how many actually used it.

This is why cars should have black boxes.
Shifting into neutral won't do anything in the case if everything is electronic and the shifter is just a front to some software. Like a joystick.

Because Anakin died when he went evil. The ghost that appears is Anakin - not darth.
Obi-Wan died still whole and on the light side.

OSS just isn't popular for consumer software - save a few exceptions.

PowerPoint, Windows, Winamp, and Explorer are good names.
They are actual words and now proper names.
PowerPoint. You're making points - with power. Sure it's marketing but there's some kind of sense to it.
Windows - because it's interface uses "windows"
Winamp - Windows Amplifier
Explorer - you explore the WILD web. (same with safari which I found to be a genius name when it came out)
Sunbird is just ridiculous, as is firefox. Atleast mozilla is a made up word. Sunbird just makes people go "eh?"
Looks like you're already avoiding the tv. They started last weekend.
Atleast it's an actual word that people aren't embarassed saying outloud.
Most of these mozilla applications will never be taken seriously with these ridiculous names.
The names need to be somewhat related, descriptive, or have an explanation.
This isn't a car. It's a calendar application.
People who use wifi on their hand helds use it mostly for email, data access and for the occasional google. No one sits down at their desk and surfs the net on their hand held.
Except they are all terrible. I have a Scientific Atlanta PVR and it hurts me to have to use it.
Tivo already has a great device, they just need to convince cable companies to bundle them instead of crappy knock-offs.

I don't I've ever seen that.
Under the Tuscan Sun. Terrible.
How do people live with with cleaning up shit all day? fixing cars? being a lawyer?
It's a job. Moron.

No. There won't be a war because no one wants it. MSN's passport has been around for a long time now and barely anyone uses it.

No, don't move up north. We have the same problem here as the United States does. Too many programmers not enough jobs. That's why it's so damn cheap.
You'll find it even harder to find a job then we do being a foreigner without a permanent visa.
Maybe because Microsoft doesn't have a hand in the japanese government and economy?
The US will rarely strike its own down if it will affect its economy or the pocket of politicians.
