"Remember when microsoft was offline for half a week? They migrated their DNS-servers from Windows to Akamai(Linux) "
Just remember, that's what Akamai uses. It's not like MS said "no, use the Linux boxes because ours suck." MS said "You have a service that is helpful to us."
"Is anything that doesn't forbid remote access *not* a root/sysadmin password away from being ssh-ed (or whatevered) to hell? "
What was flamebait about that? It's a little off-topic, but I'm really curious what the answer is. I've used Linux a little and SSH + Root Password = completely exposed system. I am naieve, I don't know all there is to know about Linux. Is there somebody who can tell me my understanding is incorrect?

"Linux has its own problems. But you mod them -1 under the rug until the fsf site gets hax0red. troll but true. "
That was true like a year or two ago, but since this has come up I've been amazed at how things have changed here. It's not that it's turning pro-Microsoft, but the "Everything Linux does is perfect" attitude has settled back down to realistic levels.
I agree with you, though, Linux is a root password away from being ssh'd to hell.
"We're taking a step backwrds, with limiting the multiplayer games to 4 players."
Does it? The big difference is that it becomes more about tactics than about firing rockets all over the place.
I remember playing Q2 with only 4 people on the lan at work. Those games were often more interesting than playing with 16 players on the net. More time was afforded in finding good places to hide.
I remember being the first to find a 'shadow' (well back then it was just a dark spot) that I couldn't be seen in. That was a cool day.
... about that tall screen. I'm really curious how one would play a fighting game that way.
My girlfriend caught me indulging in a creative use of a packet sniffer.
Man I hate the couch.
" If they can't teach on any platform (that has the basic software support) then there's something wrong with the teaching. "
Bit of an oversimplification, dontcha think?
"I, for one, look forward to welcoming our new erotic Imperial war machine overlords. "
Erotic war machine overlords give Morbo gas.
I hate when my jokes go misunderstood and get modded as off-topic.
Damn, I don't have RealPlayer installed.
Note: My joke here had a stronger foundation when original post I responded to was modded as insightful instead of funny.
They'll release a modified Playstation 2. It'll break some games and Sony'll deny everything.
At least that's what happened when people used a similar trick to play import games on the original PS1.
I, for one, welcome our SCO overlords.
(sorry, couldn't think of a way to use the other 3 overused quotes here.)
Lol!
Sorry I missed that! Heheh
If it's any consolation, the Rogue Squadron games depicted lots of probes on the surface.

"Well, they're certainly easier to 'extinct' than first-posters with bad grammar.... "
I'd be embarrased to get modded up for a comment like that if the english isn't the parent poster's native language.
"Citing a need to find out what other organisms 'enjoy hot ovens', researchers will be continuing their work, this time with kittens."
Kittens give Morbo gas.
"It sounds like this:
pbpbpbpbpbpbpbbpbpbbpbpbppbbppbpbpbpbpbpb "
Oops. I think my joke caused ppl to make the sound I was describing.
Thank you!
"It works by detonating (instead of slow burning) fuel hundreds to thousands of times a second."
It sounds like this:
pbpbpbpbpbpbpbbpbpbbpbpbppbbppbpbpbpbpbpb
"I'm starting to feel left out.. Maybe I'll install Windows on a box and join the fun. "
Bon voyage!
"Wrong. It's still a step above Star Trek conventions."
Off-topic? By Grabthar's Hammer, I shall avenge you.

"It looks like the outbreak continues to get worse and worse, with no real end in sight until people can patch their systems."
To be fair, the media's not going to be interested in reporting that it's not as bad as it seems.
(Note: I'm not saying it's not that bad, I'm saying don't trust the media to tell is its dying.)

Troll?!
What good is education and health care if extremists can come in and unravel it all?
"The mayor said there was no fire, that it was black smoke brought on by an automatic shutdown because of the power grid failure."
Letting the smoke out is an effective way of shutting down a system.
