Oh baby! They (Ral Partha) put out some great stuff. My favorites were the Tiamat figure and the skeletal war elephant (complete with riders and platform). I especially liked buying figures with nice big shields (if you consider the size of a small bean big) so I could paint authentic heraldric symbols from my Kingmaker game onto them using a brush consisting of a few hairs.
I could crank out close to a figure a day sitting at my paint stained desk by the glow of my desklight with my Testors bottles, half drunk on thinner fumes and a small TV going by my elbow. I even mastered the arts of dry brushing, washing, and matt finishing. Maybe I'll go back into it when I'm an old retired fart.
My brother had a run-in with a gaming "Cat of Doom". Our Maine Coon Cat, that we had as teens, liked to come in through our bedroom window. After doing whatever cats do it would then head for his Avalon Hill "Barbarossa" game board and proceed to jump on it and make himself at home. His bottle brush tail was not only excellent at sweeping whole Soviet and German corps off the table but the occasional armored division would cling to his fur. He eventually gave up trying to keep him off the board and ended up using that blue sticky putty to hold the counters in place.
We need to save that money so we can put guys on Mars so we can...ummm...have guys walking around and stuff and taking cool photos and ahhhh...talking to the president over the radio and stuff.
We've already explored the edge of the solar system pretty thoroughly, right? That $4.2 million is badly needed to pay for approx 1/2 hr of the cost of our Iraq "policy".
Only someone who wanted to have 100% control over your access would say something like that. You can't lend someone a broadband feed, you can't watch it again any time you want (you are at the mercy of availability), and they can edit the content, etc.
After reading endless anonymous threats to "Kill spammers" or "Knock off the RIAA" on Slashdot it looks like some of them finally went off and tried it against outsourcing. Never piss off desperate cobol programmers I guess.
Bring back Erin Gray in her youth on Buck Rodgers (VERY tight gray spandex body suit...oh baby) and MAYBE I'll watch that "I'm an alien 'cause I have something glued to my forehead" channel.
"It doesn't help that prison is basicly a decent hotel"
Are you kidding? You consider being surround by constant screaming and yelling, hyper-aggresive criminals preying on you, a total lack of privacy, regular violence, endless mind numbing boredom, callous guards, and food that barely meets the requirements to be food to be a "decent hotel"? I'd hate to see the hotels you've stayed at. Prison is punishment, don't ever think otherwise.
They probably have sentencing guidelines they have to follow like they do in the US. He only had two prior convictions for burglary (which can be for as little as stealing a bike) and I would assume they ratchet up the sentences with each conviction. I don't think they are concerned with rehabilitation just like they don't bother with it here (and we pay for this attitude when they get out and become recidivists). If he does this again he may be in for an extended "vacation".
The fact is that the years around 19 are the ones a male is most likely to engage in crime so even a few years in prison during these years will make a difference.
Getting the credit card companies to cooperate and refuse service to those who use spamming services would be a great way to put a major dent in their profits. Most people who order things through the mail are not going to send a check and certainly not cash. Unfortunately anyone buying the crap they advertise probably isn't that careful or bright in the first place.
I'd also make people who let their machines become "zombies" legally liable. Just like you can't drive a car that is falling apart and is a threat to public safety you shouldn't be allowed to connect an infected machine to the internet. If you do then you should be liable for any spam your machine sends out (ISPs should be included). It would force people to be more careful with their systems.
I hate to say it but the administration of the net needs to be taken over by the government. There isn't a strong enough profit motivation on the ISPs, domain admins, etc part to take the action they need to crack down on spam. Traditionally services needed by the public, but not conducive to private for-profit operation, have fallen under the aegis of the government (i.e. fire/police protections, "free" libraries and schools, etc).
1. They need to go after the people who are paying the spammers. You advertise with a spammer your business gets shut down plus you get time in jail, a big fine or both.
2. Banning countries won't work because they can just bounce it off 3rd country's domains. The TCP/IP protocols themselves need to be redesigned.
3. Maybe going to private networks will be necessary where activity is monitored and certain activities are blocked (such as IRC, spyware websites, etc). Obviously this won't appeal to the privacy concious but right now any twit with a phone line can connect and ISPs rarely do much to stop abuse. This would probably appeal more to businesses than to individuals.
The tax rate is a red herring. Look at how people live nowadays. Homes are far bigger than they were in the 50's. Virtually the only houses you see being built anymore are McMansions. Most people seem to have a pathological need to drive massive SUVs that go for $35K+. You need a two income family now because people have two income lifestyles.
One tax rate has deceased since the 50's, the corporate tax rate. If you are upset at your individual tax rate then question why the federal government lets companies off the hook and passes their share onto your back.
I'm building a large concrete bunker, deep underground, where I'll sit in peace wearing my aluminum foil hat and listening to the voices coming from my fillings.
If they are casting for the role of Wonder Woman then I'll just quote the Proust Recital game show skit from a MP episode:
"We couldn't decide on a winner so we've decided to give the prize to the woman with the biggest tits." *WILD APPLAUSE*

"Russia, China, India... Who'd have thought these would be new sources of spam?!"
Make sure you add to your list America's own 2nd/3rd world state, Florida.
Government investigates itself and doesn't find any problems. News at 11.

If they based their decisions on download popularity we'd only get 24 hr porn channels.
Quiet or you'll start a TechnoGate crisis!
If you don't know what I'm referring to just ask any lazy journalist.

I just heard a scream, as if thousands of Usenet spammers all cried out at once and then suddenly were silent.
(Apologies to George Lucas)
Finally, a sexually transmitted cure!
"*cough* *cough* Time to get my prescription refilled."
Oh great, that's all I need, Cylons knocking on my door, "Hi, can we come in and talk to you for a minute? Can I give you a copy of the Watchtower?"
What are they measuring the star's speed against? The center of our galaxy? The earth?
DOH! You're right, I meant SMTP. I didn't have enough coffee.

Why paint the whole house? Just paint the walls of the room you have your computer in.
I wonder if the paint sheds metal fibers over time and if they can wreak havoc with electrical equipment as they float around.
