  1. Relative driving dangers on An Ignition Interlock In Every Car? · · Score: 1

"New Mexico is especially vulnerable to this because of its long straight highways"

The state would save more lives doing something about people falling asleep at the wheel. I believe that is either the number 1 or 2 cause of fatal accidents in the US. Long straight highways are the sleeping pills of the nation.

Maybe instead of drunk driving gizmos they could loosen the laws on pulling over onto the shoulder and taking a nap when you need to.

  2. Re:Where to start .... on An Ignition Interlock In Every Car? · · Score: 1

"First off, this is insanity at a new level. 30 seconds to start your car?!?!!"

I can't wait for the person who, for example, stalls their car at a railroad crossing and can't restart it because of this thing.

I guess it is better to die of an equipment failure than a drunk driving accident.

  9. Interviewers like them on Joel Rants About Resumes · · Score: 1

Putting my hobbies on my resume created an opening for a friendly conversation with more than one interviewer. They also sometimes draw attention to you when you and the resume reviewer share common interests.

Of course it could backfire if you put for hobbies, say, "Sneaking into people's bedrooms at night wearing a mask." though this might be a plus if applying for a job with organized crime.

If they are going to focus on getting the fuel before they have any means of using it for energy why don't they just jump right to talking about matter/anti-matter reactors? It would make about as much sense. What are we going to do, sit around staring at tons of H3 waiting for someone to invent a reactor for it? There is also the little detail of whether the energy it would take to fetch the H3 would be equal or greater than the energy you'd get from it.

  12. But does it increase profits? on Pop-Up Ads Lead to Consumer Revolt, Ad-Blocking · · Score: 1

The main article notes that people still click on his pop-ups. I'd have to say that most of these clicks are probably people trying to close the window and clicking it by accident. Net advertisers are especially prone to the belief that if someone clicks on something they did it with serious intent, not by accident or momentary curiosity. I'd be surprised if the people buying these ads ever got much for their money.

  13. Jello Biafra on A New HOPE on the Horizon · · Score: 3, Interesting

I had the pleasure of seeing Jello at a performance talk he gave at UMass sometime around the late 80's. It was about the Iraq war V1.0 and the Challenger disaster (covered a lot of ground, eh?). Jello wasn't the debacle that night though, it was the mass of students who couldn't get in to see him due high demand for tickets (first come first served). They pushed so hard on the doors they broke the glass and fell through. The state police took a bunch away and covered the door, then they put speakers outside so the mob could hear Jello also. It was loads of anarchistic fun.
