  1. NE isn't technologically savvy? Huh? on The Widening Tech-Savvy Gap · · Score: 3, Interesting

So why is the NE (along with the Bay Area) such a concentration of high tech if it is so techno-dumb? I don't see high tech companies flocking to the mid west. Also, what about all those little schools like Harvard, MIT, BU, NE, etc that are in the NE?

Who did they survey, the illiterate?

So Republicans are for corporate welfare (defense industry) and "dirty" industries (oil, coal) while Democrats are for media conglomerates and consumer high-tech. No big difference.

Don't be so quick to portray Republicans as helpless lambs (they like to play the victim to appeal to angry white males). Last time I checked they controled the House and the Presidency. A Republican Congress passed the DCMA. If I had to point a finger I'd point it at them first.

I'd say neither is very interested in the common man except when elections roll around.

My favorite was the Fokker Triplane. Not just because of it's unique shape but the fact that the nose was so high that the pilot had to side-slip the plane while landing to be able to see down past the nose. The last momement of the landing was basically done blind.

  23. Re:No great loss on Concerning The Cancellation of Futurama · · Score: 1

Speaking of the Simpsons, I've been groaning (or is it Groening?) at the weakness of the Simpsons scripts for the last year at least. I get the feeling that Matt G has put the Simpsons in the hands of others so he could work on Futurama and it shows. The series (Homer's char especially) has become extremely cartoonish (yes, I know it is a cartoon). The problem with that is that good comedy always has a way for the viewer to connect to it and sympathize. The plots though have become more and more bizarre and illogical and Homer's character less sympathetic. Violence (Homer getting beaten or doing the beating) and pop culture references are being used as crutches in lieu of good writing. Compare, say, the Simpson's Halloween "Zombie" episode to a new one. It had logic within it's framework, a few good pop culture references, great jokes, and a human Homer. Now Homer is just a bizarre freakish character, like the kid in class who made wierd noises out of a desperate need for attention.

I think it is time to do what Seinfeld did and let it die gracefully before someone has to pull the plug on the Simpsons also.
