But step back from that philosophical stuff, and imagine that why would there be another species similar humans? I think people think aliens, they think human with different features with similar concepts of life, death, morals, social "revealing" ( would they even understand what that is? ) rather then something so foreign, we couldn't even begin to understand it, nor its motivations, if it has those?
They seem human because the "aliens" are really humans from the far future who have traveled back in time.
"Rex can easily pull down weight of more than 90 kilos, more than he weighs."
Ignoring the fact that the kilogram is a measure of mass, not force, this sentence still makes no sense. I can "pull down" double my weight with my little finger. Pulling it UP would be hard.
Regardless, unless the price is significantly lower (and I agree that $100 sounds about right), this sort of device is doomed to failure. IIRC $400 is the same price as the Sony reader, which was a flop for no other reason.
I kinda like the idea of the reader, especially with the possibility of having a dictionary, boardgame rulebooks, and other reference material on-hand and searchable. But I'm a cheapskate and I get all my books at the local thriftshop for $0.25 each.
"Agenda"? Why do people always use that term in reference to those who warn about global warming? What could that "Agenda" possibly be?
Unlike you, or most other Slashdotters, I don't pretend to know if human activity is really contributing to global warning or not. However, I do know what the choices are:
1) Pay attention to the tree-huggers
2) Ignore the tree-huggers
If we choose 1) and are wrong, not much has been harmed but the profits of some large corporations. If we choose 2) and are wrong, we face world-wide catastrophe. So for me, the choice is clear.
Of course you didn't say "anything about oil" or the oil companies. But if there is a plausible "Agenda" involved in the global-warming controversy, it is theirs. If you are not a stockholder, you are a tool.
I guess this means that all the other WoC D20 systems, such as the recently-released Star Wars "Saga" edition, are now obsolete. Star Wars RPG is loaded with "Feats" and "Prestige Classes".
It would seem to me better if the modified organism was a form of photosynthetic algae instead of bacteria. This would pretty much solve the "feedstock" problem, although I assume there would still be some need for "fertilizer".
I do understand what the parent poster was saying, and it points out the great misconception of those who see "intelligent design" in greatly complex organisms.
I believe this great complexity is a sign that we are NOT intelligently designed. Take, for instance, the human immune system, or in particular the inflammatory system. There are many different systems functioning, many at cross purposes. And the effect of inflammation is rarely beneficial to the organism. I would hope that an "intelligent" designer would have done a much better job. The "design" could certainly be much simpler and work at least as well.
No, the great complexity of living organisms is a sign that that they have indeed evolved by "accident".

"...man has yearned to destroy the sun"
Uhh, Groundhog Day on Mars is June 2nd.
It seems odd, since the basic concept of Spore is an online single-player game. The game will need to "phone home" anyway.

I can also remember playing Chutes and Ladders for the first time, and thinking, "Wow...this is even BETTER than Candyland!"
I think the purpose for it is to seem real.
All the vinyl records I buy cost $0.50 at the thrift store around the corner.

Modern Art
That's Life
and of course...
Bohnanza!
Carcassonne costs about $20 retail, and less at online retailers.

Yep, it's nothing but an international conspiracy to deny the oil companies their rightful profits, and now the Nobel committee's in on it.

The doctors created a full 3-D image of my head using multiple imaging technologies and found nothing.
Who says the human brain came about by accident? Evolutionary theory certainly does not say this.
"Containment" would even work.
The data comes from Thomson Scientific/ISI, and we do exactly that for every paper published in just about every journal in the last 100 years.
It had nothing to do with Iraq, Iran or the "missile shield", it was about IP rights.
"Obsolete" isn't a verb. Thank you.
At least 'till they can travel back in time and do the math correctly the first time.
So, there will be yet another FPS, yet another Giant Robot game, and yet another racing game. I didn't know there was so much to get excited about.
Why do all these things need to start with "Ph" instead of "F"? Someone explain it to me.
