As PCs get cheaper I think they will take market share from the consoles, until the PC becomes the de facto single console. I think there are already more PC game titles than console titles, and the penetration of PC's is higher than that of game consoles.
This is pretty much the OPPOSITE of what really seems to be happening. Have you been to an EBgames or Gamestop store recently? They pretty much ONLY stock console games, with one small rack of PC games at most.
"The Agency aimed to help as many people as they could, and chose to assist Vista with good reason: the OS still has a 90 percent lock on the PC market"
Nah, I'm just being snarky because it cheeses me off that/. pretends that there are no games that don't require a processer to run. Articles never specify "Electronic" games, just "Games" as if that's the only type that exists.
In the last five years I've had way more fun playing Rio Grande's releases than ANY by the companies on that list. Although their revenue certainly doesn't come close to that of EA, I believe that if enough people tried Rio Grande's games IT WOULD.
It's true - compare the pay of the people who studied science and engineering to those who went to business school. US students who are truly smart will go where the money is.
The only way to get more kids to study science is to show that there's good money to be made from it.
This IS as close to a "Golden Age" of boardgaming as there has ever been. Check out Boardgamegeek to see why. For electronic gaming, I believe that time will come when the focus shifts back from "AWESUM GRAFIX!!!" to making fun games.
Do you mean the Star Wars debacle that generated hundreds of millions of dollars in ticket sales and sold tens of millions of videocassettes and DVDs? If they're going to learn anything from that, it's that pissing off whiny SciFi geeks is an easy way to get free publicity.
And then, ten years down the road, they can re-release the "Original" version...
I wouldn't mind, but 'running around and shooting stuff' is what most of these games are based on.
Which is one of the reasons designers are at a "dead end". With a few notable exceptions, video/PC games are based on Sports or Combat of some type. Even "Adventure" or the badly-mischaracterised computer "Role Playing" games usually involve lots of fighting. Designers can't seem to think of anything else.
but if the sheep are rare enough it can often be useful to trade some wood for sheep early in the game
Especially if you have the 2:1 sheep port and decide to build your empire entirely from sheep.
I really hate playing boardgames on a computer. Those features that make a good boardgame and those features that make a good video/computer game are entirely different, IMO.
Maybe this is true now, but in the early days of illegal downloading it was the lesser-known artists who were most completely hosed. Many bands that appeal to college students (i.e. "alternative rock") lost their contracts in the early part of the decade, as their fans were the most likely to have the know-how and high-speed connections required to easily steal music. Regardless of the generalizations made in Blackburn's article, I can't imagine this has changed, unless college students have suddenly come up with a lot of cash to buy CDs.
The other thing I'm not sure I believe is that there is a "disconnect" between concerts and CD sales. What has REALLY changed, I think, is that these days the recordings (CD or download) are being used to prime interest for the high-priced concerts instead of the other way around.
I recently heard a tale about the kid who appeared in the old Connect 4 commercial. After it aired, any time he was able to succeed at anything he was taunted with the phrase "Pretty Sneaky, Sis".
I thought the same thing, but TFA says: "She was testing a compound called a PPAR-gamma modulator". So it's the /. editors who messed up.
"0-day" has become nothing more than a buzzword.

Yep - with dual-format players the war is over, as there is no longer a battleground to fight over.
Wow! And it's not even out yet!

Any list that doesn't include Rio Grande Games at or near the top is just plain wrong.
With this tech advance, 2 unhappy citizens in each city are made content.
Sorry, I need more than "AWSUM GRAFIX!!!!" to have fun. The "review" here mentions little else.

"One a these days, Aishwarya, on a these days....bang! zoom! - to the moon!"
...the prize was compressed by a factor of 5.86 as well.
I guess that's true. You never hear Republicans complaining about these voting machines. Therefore, they must work "perfectly".
This is fairly important to me, since I would likely get most of my "e-books" from gutenberg.org
I predict US gas prices will continue to drop until November 7th, after which they'll quickly head over $3/gallon again.

Regardless of the ten year gap, Forbidden Planet was one of the chief inspirations for Star Trek.

I chose not to RTFA.

Most likely, Shatner and Nimoy will star. With lots of makeup and computer editing, they can pass for 20-year-olds. I'm almost sure of it.
Yes!! Really!! The thing we really need is another PC game sequel!!!!
