  1. Re:Banner blocking is bad on Norton Antivirus 2004 Ad Blocking - Tough Call? · · Score: 1

Banners don't make the web work; people do. If the people don't want to see flash, pop-ups, pop-unders, redirects or take overs then they will speak; and spoken they (and I) have. Regardless of any flaws in any browser the general public has HAD to revert to SpyBot, updates, AdAware and other similar programs to detect and remove the viscious shit that happens on the web un-intentionally due to advertising.....and at the end of the day spam, banners and all the forementioned are exactly that; advertising. The penis enlargers, penis enhancers and redirects to Walmart or 'Mary's Kitchen Cafe' are all on the same level. In response to your comment about 'targeted' that's the other half of the problem. Most of these re-directs usually try to collect some information about you and your surf habits so it's not always the case where 'I need money to support my site' rather than 'I don't care who collects information about the people who visit my site'. Web developers need to know WHO they're selling advertising space to and WHAT information they're trying to collect. It's a three way street between the web designer, their money base and the surfers they want to visit their site; not on how much information either can collect. THAT'S what makes the internet a worthwhile experience.

The key word here is 'intentionally'. I really don't believe that any reasonable person would use any of your examples as a legitimate weapon, however let's call a spade a spade; guns were and are designed to kill. A crowbar or butcher knife have other design INTENTS, but can be used as weapons; yes. Besides target shooting (which represents a minute fraction of the legal gun buying community) a gun is designed to effectively kill something; whether it's human or not. Either way, I disagree with your argument on 'guns are deterrence' claim.

What do you do when a company does this crap? How do you effectively counter this propaganda? Since nothing has seemed to work thusfar, I'm actually scared. Will I be next? Will they target my children? Will they target my grandchildren? Maybe the only way for them to win is to have everyone commit suicide; then they can say..."See...we won!"....at least that way no one will be around to buy their product.

  17. Hello? on Microsoft Dismisses Apple's iTunes for Windows · · Score: 1

Since when has music dominated our lives so freely and when, exactly, did this music uprising happen? Granted, I'm older, however I do remember the days where if you liked the music you purchased the 8 tracks / LP and moved on (am I showing my age?). If not, you taped it off the radio and the world still turned. Since when did P Diddy, Puff Daddy and Brittany Spears make SO much difference in the copyright arena? Metallica, please.....stop! I'm not ignorant enough to believe that the artists themselves cause all this havoc, but they DO sign with the execs that cause it. PEOPLE.....IT'S ONLY MUSIC....it is NOT the end all to society! The apocalypse will NOT occur tomorrow if of all of a sudden there were no music! I say let the RIAA play their game to it's futile end; the less attention they get (with underlying support for indies) will kill them in the long run. I still want to reiterate though, "IT'S ONLY MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!" It should not be so pervasive in our everyday lives.
