You're right....the federal government is not making this mandatory; nor did they make the 21 year old drinking age mandatory for every state. They simply stated that if you don't change your state law we will deny you federal funds for your highways (which is an economic burden that NO governor would endorse). I realize that highway funds and internet connections are two different subjects; but are they? If the federal government can dictate there authority over the states using economic means, then what's the use in a local or state government? Oh what the hell; who needs highways anyway....you're right.

The only time I've had to re-boot is for the updates; which I screen regularly. Everyone talks about security and not trusting MS; has anyone EVER thought about trusting who is performing this open programming? I'm by no means a MS supporter, but I don't trust the kid down the block with his information or programming either. I guess what I'm saying is that I trust the guy across the street as much as I trust MS; that includes Apple programmers as well.

  15. Re:How to spend their money? on Studios, RIAA Warn CEOs On File Trading · · Score: 1

First off, the RIAA does not 'sell' or 'market' anything more than hype. They represent the five largest music DISTRIBUTORS (NOT creators) of music on the planet by distributing lies and exemplifying the anti-idea that artists would get no where without them; which is in effect true. I personally have no problem with Sony or BMG trying to justify their costs to the public because they happen to back artists like Brittany Spears or Eminem, however, do you REALLY believe that either of these 'artists' would have made it big WITHOUT big money backing? Again, hype and marketing. To a lesser extent, one could argue your point for MS; will we enter a new golden age of computing with better operating systems because *nix is better? Maybe, but no one is arguing the free liscense rights of its users because there is no unified group 'protecting' its interests; the interests are pure; not mummified by time (yet). So, let's go down the road of time. I mainly d/l music like Dion, Del Vikings and Buddy Holly; are those titles that Sony and BMG want to go after me for? All of those artists got SCREWED by the recording industry and they want to call ME a pirate. Fine, the 'quality' of the music might increase (as you suggest), but it might just stay the same. Either way, I still won't buy Brittany Spears or Eminem's CD's and I certainly still would not d/l them either.

Are you saying it's the consumer's fault that there isn't quality music or a way to facilitate it? Please, if 95% of the recording artists out there don't receive any decent royalties, do you think this would make the difference? the only thing the RIAA is capitalizing on is the 5% that can actually MAKE THEM MONEY; it would seem a good risk to me to just throw a billion dollars out there on the 5% that make a profit. People are stupid; we know this---so do they. I would rather try to make a dent in that 5% than contribute 95% to the unnoticed few; hell, they're thieves.
