I know how to use scp and sftp on the command line. 90% of my time on Linux is spent in a shell. (That may change if/when I install jedit again.) I like GNOME because of its thumbnailing of pics and video, which it does better than KDE.
I was pleasently surprised when the version I recently installed supported ssh.
Setting up an ssh daemon on my computers is much easier, and more secure, than setting up an FTP server. And more convenient than NFS or Samba.

Multi-stage processors have latching mechanisms between stages that release on a clock pulse. I think what he meant by "data ready flags" was to allow the latches between the stages to unlock automatically, instead of being dependant on a chipwide clock signal.
But then, I'm only working on a Bachelor's in Computer Information Systems...what would I know about signalling in a complex silicon device?
"Create a loop using fileindex as its iterator. Now open, erase, and close each file, starting with fileindex."
"Wait a sec...erase that loop. Create a new variable, call it tempindex. Use that as an iterator. Now open, erase, and close each file, starting with tempindex."
"Wait a sec...fileindex was passed in by value, wasn't it? OK. Erase that loop. Create a loop using fileindex as its iterator. Now open, erase, and close each file, starting with fileindex."
"Doh...we need to use fileindex later in the function. Erase that loop..."
My backspace key is the most used key on my keyboard. Other than that, it sounds like fun.
Has it occured to anyone that perhaps DHS and the DoD get failing grades because they take different, more effective approaches to security than what's handed down by a beauracracy?

Slashdot's main page is cached. Pages with comments (such as this page, and journal pages) aren't.
Many people who read Slashdot do so only for the articles, not the comments. Many don't bother visiting a comment-enabled page. However, in this case, everyone who clicks on that article is going to a non-static, non-cached page.
Slashdot is definitely seeing a higher load than usual, today. I imagine their IT staff are using it as a stress-test.
Ages 10-12.
It's spawning political and social controversey again.
Whoever modded the parent up paid no attention that his username is "Inigo Montoya" ...
Tom, you really should have mentioned this in the article...

Video games don't make me fell [the] violent, morons do.
Thy words speak true, good sir!
Woody? Meh. I've still got a hard drive lying around with potato on it.
Such plugins, being independently developed, aren't necessarily up to the same quality standards as the system they plug into.
And by "independently", I don't just mean separate companies. Microsoft's own Works plugin for MS Word is an unstable POS.
"ps ax"
What's that tell you?

Everyone knows Googlefight is the appropriate tool for this job.
Digg vs Slashdot. Slashdot wins!

Aw, come on. I posted a thank-you reply. :)
I should mention...I got a sunburn once, years ago. So I moved my computer away from the window.
I can create a compression algorithm that compresses my 2GB of data to 1 bit. But it would be crap for any other datastream fed to it.
Ah, a new sig. Thank you. Thank you very much.

I so love screwing with people 50 years from now.
That's why I'm going to keep my porn collection intact.
All I gotta do is check the comment data, huh?
Now I need to figure out who to leave my Slashdot account to.
Your youngest. What Slashdot needs right now is a 5-year-old with a 5-digit Slashdot UID.
I'm the youngest I know about...a 22-year-old with a 5-digit UID. I wish I could find out when exactly I created the account...

Still have a couple gigs of it, though...I laugh, imagining my family exploring
